Facebook and MySpace are not computing clouds they are applications

The google and amazon clouds are not applications(sort of). You can always move your data from one cloud to an other just back it up and restore it.

I would not expect to move cloud configuration from one cloud to another. That would be like moving from Windows to Linux, or Solaris to HP, they may be similar but work using different mechanisms.

Never mind that you have to actually get a sample of the creature to test. While it is possible to extract DNA from feces it is difficult to say whos it is, the DNA and feces. Usually, you need to catch the thing, this is of course hard for rare creatures and it may also incure the rath of the endagered speices act.

Nintendo DSi Software Will Be Region Locked 148

aliquis writes with news that software made for the recently announced Nintendo DSi will be region-locked. Nintendo's reasoning is that the DSi "embeds net communication functionality within itself and we are intending to provide net services specifically tailored for each region." It's also been discovered that accounts with the DSi's online store won't be linked with the Wii store, so points for one won't work with the other. Nintendo has stated that they don't intend for digital distribution to replace retail sales. We discussed the DSi's announcement last week.

Submission + - How the BBC rendered a spinning globe in 1985

Klaidas writes: "A live picture of a spinning globe had been shown before BBC programmes since the Sixties. When colour came to BBC 1, a curved mirror was added behind the globe, and the effect this produced continued to be seen on screen for over fifteen years. But technology had moved on and time was running out for this mechanical symbol.
BBC Research & Development, Hywel Williams and 625.uk.com have a story about how the spinning globe was being rendered back in the days."

You're not goiing to believe this, but in the middle of a very long losing streak I turned down sex with an attractive woman on Saturday and said "no" to two hookers on Monday.

Submission + - Jack Thompson blame NIU shooting on video games (youtube.com)

l33tPr0digy writes: Not that anyone is shocked by this, but Jack Thompson was on Fox News this morning talking about the Northern Illinois University shooting yesterday. What's funny was that he was on while everyone was waiting for the first police news conference to begin, yet Jack started right into his tirade against "killing simulators" a.k.a. video games.

Submission + - Biofuels Deemed a Greenhouse Threat

gandhi_2 writes: The NYT is reporting that some studies published in Nature are detailing how most Biofuels release more atmospheric carbon than conventional fossil fuels:

Almost all biofuels used today cause more greenhouse gas emissions than conventional fuels if the full emissions costs of producing these "green" fuels are taken into account, two studies being published Thursday have concluded. The benefits of biofuels have come under increasing attack in recent months, as scientists took a closer look at the global environmental cost of their production. These latest studies, published in the prestigious journal Science, are likely to add to the controversy.

Submission + - Pixel Community Site Offline, Developer Missing

Couzin2000 writes: "One of the top contending software against the ever-dominant Adobe Photoshop has been, of late, Pixel Image Editor. Still in beta stages, Pixel is cross platform (Windows, Mac and Linux), shows tremendous promise, and is a very-low-cost alternative to Photoshop and Gimp. However, Pavel Kanzelsberger, who is sole developer of the famed program, has gone missing for at least 2 months. What's worse, the Pixel Community site (which houses the user forums and bug reporter) is not online anymore. Does this mean development for the software alterntive to cracking PS is now gone? What's more, has anyone seen Pavel lately?"
