Submission + - Federal Reserve Must Disclose Bank Bailout Records (bloomberg.com)

gibson123 writes: The Federal Reserve Board must disclose documents identifying financial firms that might have collapsed without the largest U.S. government bailout ever, a federal appeals court said.

The U.S. Court of Appeals in Manhattan ruled today that the Fed must release records of the unprecedented $2 trillion U.S. loan program launched primarily after the 2008 collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. The ruling upholds a decision of a lower-court judge, who in August ordered that the information be released.

Ex-Sun Chief Dishes Dirt On Gates, Jobs 241

alphadogg writes "Former CEO of Sun Microsystems Jonathan Schwartz has taken to his personal blog, provocatively titled 'What I couldn't say ...,' to dish some industry dirt and tell his side of the story about the demise of Sun. He has already hinted at plans to write a book, and a new post suggests a tell-all tome could indeed be in the offing. 'I feel for Google — Steve Jobs threatened to sue me, too,' Schwartz writes, apparently referring to Apple's patent lawsuit against HTC, which makes Google's Nexus One smartphone. As for Bill Gates, Schwartz says he was threatening regarding Sun's efforts in the office software space."

Sorry, that happened to many folks I know, and I got caught up also. I knew the gig was up when I get my haircut, (I lived in the Upper East Side, NYC), my barber told me how she had made x amount of dollars that day trading such and such a tech stock, a tip from one of her customers. I should have went home and sold right away, I knew it was too good to be true. Moral of the story "stop loss", and learn an important lesson to fight another day.

US Gamers Spend $3.8 Billion On MMOs Yearly 177

eldavojohn writes "A new report from Games Industry indicates that MMO gamers in the United States paid $3.8 billion to play last year, with an analysis of five European countries bringing the total close to $4.5 billion USD. In America, the report estimated that payments for boxed content and client downloads amounted to a measly $400 million, while the subscriptions came to $2.38 billion. Hopefully that will fund some developer budgets for bigger and better MMOs yet to come. The study also found that roughly a quarter of the US population plays some form of MMO. Surely MMOs are shaping up to be a juicy industry, and a market that can satisfy people of all walks of life."

Submission + - The world's first commercially-available jetpack (gizmag.com) 1

ElectricSteve writes: It's been a long time coming. While Arthur C. Clarke's satellites have taken to space, and James Bond's futuristic mobile technology has become common place, still the dream of sustained personal flight has eluded us — until now. At $86,000, the Martin Aircraft jetpack costs about the same as a high-end car, achieves a 30 minute flight time and is fueled by regular gasoline. A 10% deposit buys you a production slot for 12 months hence.

Submission + - Plantic - Bio Degradable Plastic (confectionerynews.com)

gibson123 writes: I first saw this product when we both were finalists in a competition in NY, it is really amazing. Over drinks, the Dr showed us how what seemed like perfectly normal plastic, was water soluble by "eating" the plastic. The piece totally dissolved, I was very impressed as was everyone else at the table. You could see the huge implications if this was implemented on a large scale, such as, chocolate trays.....

Yea, I had a bad customer experience w/ newegg. I bought a printer/scanner, and it came with the side kicked in. I figured it was a disgruntled employee. Still it took them awhile to take it back and they wanted me to outlay more cash to buy a replacement while the "refund" worked it's way through the system, I mean you've got to be kidding me.
