Disclaimer: we are just migrating from Exchange to Google Apps.

Exchange is in no way perfect, and I am happy to see get rid of it. But if you want to / need to run your own service, none of the other solutions listed here come close.

Quoting Churchill:

"Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time."

Just replace Democracy with MS Exchange. /jussi

The difference is, I believe the judges in the nordic countries (at least here in Finland) probably have more leeway to throw silly cases out, even if it is not strictly defined in the law book. A bit like how evidence is inadmissible in the USA if a technicality has been broken when aquiring said evidence. In Finland clear evidence would never be dismissed because it was found in an unlawful search, the unlawful search would just be an issue for another case.

This is a result of our being less of a litigation society. It does have it's downsides. /jussi

Real Reason Why the White iPhone 4 Is Delayed 182

tekgoblin writes "There have been numerous reasons why the White iPhone 4 may be delayed with one reason being the color mismatch between the home button and the body. Well this time there is another reason. A source has told CultofMac that the reason for the delay is a light leakage issue caused by the case being clear. Light from the case leaks into pictures taken by the back and front camera on the white iPhone 4, causing distorted pictures. This problem is non-existent on the black iPhone 4, because of its already black case, so Apple has been looking for a solution to this problem, thus the delay of the White iPhone 4 till spring of next year."

Submission + - Nokia replaces Kallasvuo with Microsoft exec (yle.fi)

juosukai writes: Nokia owners finally replace Kallasvuo, after completely losing the plot in high-end phones in recent years. A lot of questions remain open, though: will Nokia embrace Windows mobile (hopefully not), will the hq be relocated to the states (hope not), will the new CEO be able to bring Nokia back to the game?

Submission + - Coke in Hindi-speaking India is spelled "Pepsi" (bloomberg.com)

tko writes: It seems like Coke has a slight challenge keeping up with Pepsi as the main brand in Hindi speaking parts of India, the third largest emerging market in Asia. Apparently, when you order a can of pop, any kind, you order a "Pepsi". http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-09-08/coke-is-the-soda-that-can-t-speak-its-name-in-india-as-pepsi-enters-hindi.html

Umm, I guess that it depends quite a bit on the "artist". Sure, many artists basically sound exactly like they do on the album, and that is what their audience (13-year old girls) excpect.

But real artists (like my favourite, Faith No More) really make a live show feel like something completely different.

Or is my detector broken, again?

Australian Women Fight Over "Geekgirl" Trademark 187

bennyboy64 writes "Two prominent women in the Australian IT industry are in a bitter dispute over the ownership of the trademark 'geekgirl.' A woman attempting to use 'geekgirl' on Twitter told ZDNet that women had been advised by the trademark owner to stop doing so since she owned the trademark for the word. 'She noted her trademark and asked me to stop calling myself a "geekgirl" in general conversation and to cease using the hashtag "#geekgirl" on Twitter,' IT consultant Kate Carruthers said."

Avatar's effects were all done on Linux. I believe WETA uses Linux exclusively for effects.

If Creative Suite moved over, a lot of audio/video/effects professionals would move to Linux. I read an article about how sound engineers are moving over to Linux because of the RT kernel.

Weta uses Linux because the software they use run on Linux, not because they really, really want to (though that might be a factor). Autodesk IFFFS and Lustre are Linux tools in their highend configs, Houdini is a Linux tool etc.

In the creative/postproduction field it is all about the tools, the software. Nobody cares what platform it runs on, as long as the system works. Audio professionals will move to Linux once Digidesign gets Protools to run there reliably _and_ the plugin manufacturers have ported their plugins over. the RT kernel has diddly squat to do with it. /jussi
