Mars

Submission + - First manned mars mission maybe a reality tv show. (mars-one.com) 1

Dr Max writes: No joke, a dutch company called mars one is seriously planning a mission to Mars paid for as a reality TV show. The 6 billion dollars they need to pay for the one way trip for 4 astronauts, might actually be possible when considering everyone on earth will tune in for different landmark events (Their departure from Earth, the journey to Mars, landing, and the first months on Mars). Applications for wanna be Martians will start next year, and further trips are planned for after the first lot get settled; but be prepared for 10 years of training, 20 minute delays to earth, high radiation on the 7 month trip over, harvesting your own food (although some supplies will be sent from earth), and conducting research and construction on mars. gizmag also has a good write up http://www.gizmag.com/mars-one-human-settlement-2023/22799/

Submission + - Graphene is there anything it can't do. (gizmag.com)

Dr Max writes: So now not only is graphene the strongest, thinnest and best conducting material known to man. It is now shown to have superpermeability with respect to water as well. This allows the graphene to pass water straight through it like nothing was there while another atom or molecule (even helium) gets blocked. http://www.gizmag.com/graphene-superpermeable-to-water/21240/

Submission + - 2TB thumb stick (tomshardware.com)

Dr Max writes: During Display Taiwan, Transcend and Taiwan's ITRI displayed a finger-long USB stick that reportedly offers 2 TB of storage. That's no typo. It somehow holds up to 2 terabytes worth of information.

So far neither company has released anything official in regards to specs or a simple introduction, nor does the high-capacity USB 3.0 stick appear on Display Taiwan's website. But as seen in the video below, the "Thin Card" thumb drive is even smaller than a thumb, measuring slightly thicker than a penny. It offers a minimum of 16 GB and a maximum of 2 TB.
