Comment This really scares me (Score 1) 376

I personally that any country that will turn off communications is a dictatorship. No matter what side of the aisle one falls on, I cannot believe that anyone thinks it is a good idea to give that amount of power to the government. I cannot think of one good or positive reason for this. I only see nefarious people shutting it down to disrupt the dissemination of information that said people wish to keep under wraps. Anyone who wants that scares me. It scares me that it is even being asked for.

Submission + - Obama Tucson Speech (thenewsinn.com)

An anonymous reader writes: obama tucson speech, obama speech, obama speech today, obama tucson, obama, state of the union 2011, Obama Tucson Speech: I’ll leave the full exegesis of President Obama’s speech in Tucson to those more qualified than I am. My own impression is that he provided what had so far been missing from this tragedy: a response that dignified the memories of the victims and properly placed them at the forefront of public attention. The rousing, celebratory tenor of the remarks took me by surprise, though this did not seem the least bit inappropriate. Whether or not his speech will reorient the national conversation along healthier, more productive lines–whether people will heed his call to demonstrate “our good example“–is something that will become clear soon enough. But it’s hard to think of a more compelling argument for why we ought to do so than the one he put forward: “Only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to the challenges of our nation in a way that would make them proud.”

Submission + - Apple may remove the home button on the next iPad (networkworld.com)

An anonymous reader writes: Steve Jobs is notoriously frugal when it comes to buttons so the latest rumor emanating out of Cupertino might not come as a huge surprise. Apple is reportedly planning to do away with the home button on the next-gen iPad and iPhone and replace its functionality with multitouch gestures. And as luck would have it, the newly seeded iOS 4.3 includes support for new multitouch gestures, one of which is the ability to use a four or five finger pinch to go back to the homescreen

Submission + - What is Hologram (kumbhatholograms.com)

kumbhathologram writes: http://www.kumbhatholograms.coma/ Hologram is a â½ÂÅ"high-tech optical laser-recordingâ½Â of a 3D (dimensional) image. It bears multiple layers of impressions of the customized artwork. Along with High Security features it demonstrates multiple images reconstructed as one image. Holograms have complete parallax & depth of field due to high refraction of light. The images seem to float in space behind and / or in front of the 2D recording medium.
