Journal Journal: About Iraq, Iran and the whole American Disaster 2

Well, I guess there are many people right now thinking the same thing as I am thinking. A lot of people were against military action, especially in European and Asian countries. The reason was that we got a different kind of news than the US population did. Even when I was trying to convince US people here in this very journal of that fact, the fervent war hungry and self confident Americans would choose for action, because "something had to be done". Supreme US and UK intelligence agencies, after all, were announcing doomsday to the world.

Let's see where all that confidence has taken us:

We know that Iraqi got bags of food, one bright spring day. At least one televised weekend of joy.

We know that Sadam, removed from power, did not get a normal honest trial. Nothing has changed.

We know that Iraq has a 1000 terrorist attacks EACH MONTH. That's 32.3 attacks each day on average.

We know that Iraqi police is "using" terrorist groups to fight against other groups.

We know that US military killed journalists and took rescue missions under deadly fire.

We know that US military used dirty radioactive mines and shells, contaminating the whole area.

We know that US military shot unarmed, injured people. Without any reason.

We know that US military likes to make gory pictures and movies about prison life.

We know that US military personnel can screw up anywhere without any real trial afterwards.

We know that the number of US soldiers that died in Iraq is approaching 3000. (2900+)

We know that 70% of polled US citizens are against the way the White House is handling the situation.

We know that Donald Rumsfeld had to step down (was politically sacrificed)

We know that FEMA leadership (and big friends with the president) had to step down.

We know that Wolfowitz is now asking for money for Africa at the UN.

We know that Dick Cheney shoots people in his free time, blows identity covers, and needs a language course.

We know that republican "think tanks" are massively taking U-turns.

We know that all the reasons for going to war with Iraq were unfounded.

We know the war in Afghanistan has changed virtually nothing.

We know that Bin Laden, the real adversary of the US, is still cooking up plans to bring one message across to the whiteys in the white house: go home, and stay there.

And who paid for all this?

Yes, us, the little men. Vote with your brains next time. Thank you.

Just for the record, I was in de team building this game, when it got finished during spring 2004 (first prototypes started in early summer 2002). A gold master was taken from that copy in 2005. That it took so long to come out is something that is very unfortunate and no doubt has been a big reason why this title is now budget-price class, as the 360 is moving up the charts. I have never known the oficial reason for the delay, but I have my ideas. It's close to a miracle that this game came out and if anything, and it shows PlayLogic's firm determination to bring good games to market, no matter what. The game biz can be a dirty hard world, kids.

While Xyanide XBOX commercialisation was on halt for 2 years, a MOBILE version was released, which got very good reviews and critique. The idea was to originally release several Xyanide's in a row on different platforms, and I can tell you that the PSP version which is in the works is going to be fenomenal as well! True oldskool shmup fans will be able to eat their hearts out.

I'm happy it's out. Finally something to show to the outside world that's imho definately worth showing. There's a lot in there that, given the 2 years that have been "lost", could be made even better, but ok, you gotta let go of your childs at some point. I hope you enjoy this little wrapup, and as anyone would say with a history in "the scene": if you like the game, buy it! :)

Journal Journal: Ask Slashlot: Eclipse & Ant - hot code replace out of synch 4

Hello smarties,

A question for the smartest among us.. :p

For a little more than one year I am using Eclipse, Ant, Maven2, Confluence, Jira, and all the other goodies. However. I have come to experience something that is bliss and which is called hot code replace feature of Eclipse. However, "because of historical reasons.." ... more yadayada was here, but the bottom line is that the jars are built with Ant, not Maven2 or Eclipse. In the case of Eclipse, the hot code replace works nicely, unless you start removing classes or methods alltogether. But with Maven2 or Ant, the link between de compiled code and the debugger drops out when you save a file even when you didn't do anything else but change some comments.

I have searched the entire internet, but none of my little dwarfs could find anything else but the same unanswered question. What exactly happens, why does hot code-replace drop out of sync, and how can I fix it?

Any thoughts are welcome! Cheers!

Journal Journal: But you (Working title SoftChimes) 2

Here are the lyrics to some guitar chords of a song I 'wrote' myself. I don`t know any chords, so it`s a bit hard to put them on the words. Guess I`ll just have to learn to sing and play the chords at the same time and record that ;)

Dedicated to Dirk because he lost his father to cancer about a week ago.

Sun's up..
And I don`t see you..
silently..
you disappeared..

All my whishing, all my dreams..
didn`t simplify..
Powerless we were, way..
before our time..

passed by..

And sometimes it just feels like,
I forgot to tell you something,
Something more important than,
Won`t you pick up laundry, sweetheart.

And so I'm back,
at the beginning,
there's nothing on tv,
wish you'd just stare

at me..

Afraid but still i think about,
all the things we did together,
So many adventures that I never,
wanna have replaced by anyone,

but you..

by anyone..
but you..

Well, time to make it official. I have a new hideout place, where more about me and my disturbed mind will appear in the near future. Most of the stuff I post(ed) here is pretty personal anyway, and not really suited for a community site like this. A feeling that has kept me from posting like a wildman/womand like others have done here.. much to my amuzement, for which I am truely gratefull.

Other than the occasional fight with republicans, and right wingers, the amount of fun and solace that I used to find in many diaries is starting to look recycled or simply disappeared completely. Not that my journals were much of a contribution, I readily admit. My life is becoming a bit more self-centered lately, as I`m moving into my own place.. I think a simultaneous mental move into my own website will nicely oil that process for me.. Does that mean I`m leaving? Course not. My 4 alter-ego`s on this site will remain here, and quite possibly be tempted to comment in their usual utopian anarchistic way..

Since LadyGuardian left this place, the idea of my own blog/web-site became much more of a project goal than a long-lasting whish. So in the past weeks I`ve worked a bit on my website and it`s now in a state where it can be browsed, though much more content is due in the coming parsecs.. So anyone interested in this distant galaxy of meaninglessness is welcome to take a look, and the rest is excused and can happily forget about me, and hop along.

Cheers, have fun, make it count, all the best.

Journal Journal: Crash

Wow.

One of a kind.

I went with a new girl (let`s call her sorefingers) to a new movie and had a new experience :) The movie was absolutely great! I was a bit sceptical that it would be one of those many many gangster movies, which it was, but this one told a whole different kind of story. There was so many meaning and value, and so fast paced cutting of many different stories all crossing eachother at one point or another, that sometimes it was even difficult to follow. Irony was the main character, but also the sense that many people are angry without knowing why.. that many people are trapped in their own personalities, trapped in systems, trapped in what they think is supposed to be right.. this was a very very good movie!

And the best part was that sorefingers was even faster in analysing all that stuff than I was when we sat down afterwards to talk a bit about life and so..

I`m going to see her again, I hope soon.. I like her..

Journal Journal: Blind Violence

Well, I think it`s world news on every news net. Paris has gone through the 9th night of trouble. Over 500 cars have been set afire, police stations were already targets, but now also storage houses and companies are targetted by the blind rage of youth in the suburbs of Paris. The reason? Well. That`s a bit the hard part. 2 kids got themselves electrocuted when they hid themselves in a transformator cabine of an electricity powerplant, because they thought the police was after them. But according to the reports, the police was back at their station after making some arrests in that neighbourhood, 9 minutes before the accident supposedly took place. In any case, it`s without question that they died in vain, but at least they didn`t die because of police brutality or incompetence.

And yet. The rage is against the system, against the minister of interior, against everything that doesn`t seem fair to the wipped up youth. The result? People died (also in vain) as they tried to make their way through the violent streets, police is constantly attacked, the whole of Paris is becoming sieged by kids who are out of control. And it is spreading to other cities, and possibly to other countries as well. Parents don`t seem to have a grip on them anymore, or some of them don`t care, but atlest they came out today to march for more dialogue and an end to the violence.

My idea? Youth is hearing a call to destroy that very carefully constructed system with all it`s rules to keep them out of the loop. In that sense, you can`t even blame them. It`s a natural process that civilisation was bound to face up to one day. There are no social laws, no social initiatives on a European level, nobody listens, and the world is unfair. These kids want to do well, but they`re constantly frustrated with the incredible high bar that is pulled up for them. Things used to be much simpler, but today, when you miss a step and you have no one to back you up, or no education to fall back upon, you`re basically dead meat. So in that sense I can understand these kids.

My solution? Destruction is never the right answer. It puts everybody back a step, and youth has just as much to loose in this as the rest of us. The only positive signal that CAN change this, is to talk and listen and act upon the whishes of these large groups of kids who, in 10 years, are supposed to make our econmy turn and perform. That`s really all I can think of. All this talk about zero-tolerance and no tolerance of violence is all fine and well but it just polarizes both parties, makes the "enemy" very visible and easy to fight against, and it doesn`t solve anything for anyone.

Talk, Listen, Act. Communication is the real key cornerstone of our civilisation. Time to re-invent the obvious!

Journal Journal: FlightPlan 1

Take an over-her-top Jody Foster paranoia character. Take a hostage-kidnap-hijack situation all rolled up into one, on a doubledeck airliner that doesn`t exist. Add anti-arab-sentiments-are-not-good political correct message preaching. Spice up with psychological cheese and really poor sfx, and a script that promises to be pretty intense and then completely looses it to the typical American disaster movie feel-good ending..

That`s your movie FlightPlan.

I didn`t like it, I didn`t hate it. It leaves something hanging in your brain: the movie was a weak attempt to bring over the message that terrorists are not necessarily arab or black, that we whiteys are too paranoid regarding coloured people, but not paranoid enough regarding white folks. The last few frames really put the icing on the cake. The black arab guy helping out our dearest Jody with a very very very heavy briefcase that she`d never manage to pull off the ground herself... Considering all the aliens that she has mowed in her life, it looks just ridiculous..

Not that I don`t agree with the message, but I think it was so cheesily put together that it spoils a bit the whole experience..
