Soon enough (if not already), they will have "reasonable suspicion" to add all Slashdot users to the list.

Hmm, let's see:

- technologically savvy? Check.

- Interested in/knowledgeable about cryptography/biology/chemistry? Check.

- Generally Libertarian (pro-individual-freedom) mentality? Big ol' check.

- NOT large donors to political campaigns? Good chance of another check here.

Sounds like yes, we as a group do indeed meet the Fascist, er Federal Government's definitions of "terrorist."

Any attributes I failed to list, that makes our community a target for clandestine government agencies?

You don't think you do, today, but that doesn't mean you don't, nor does it mean you won't at some point in the future.

The fact that governance is dynamic and contingent solely on the whims of a handful of powerful people are precisely why everyone, yourself included, should actually care about the government snooping on private information.

Oh, that and fetish sex. Because there's nothing wrong with fetish sex, but I'd bet most people who are into that sort of thing want to keep it hidden regardless.

We all know, at this point, that as a result of the aforementioned butt-fuck buddies relationship, all hardware can be considered compromised before you even open the damn box.

I don't know about you all, but I'm far more concerned that an organization with the power to take away my life and/or freedom can access my data without my permission or knowledge than infamous Russian credit card scammer "Peggy."

That be my 2 pennies.

The "worth" of a polygraph lies in the subject's belief in its ability to judge his truthfulness. Basically it's a psychological tool. It's ability to discover lies relies on the subject's belief in the operator's "professional" ability and his faith in machines making no mistakes.

The irony being, of course, that the type of absolute sociopath you would want to find/prevent from hiring with such a technique is exactly the person it won't work on.

Which, actually, explains a lot about law enforcement types....

No, I haven't learned your meaning. I can Google "define progressive" just the same as anyone else, and guess what? The actions of Germany's National Socialist Party very much do fit at least one of the definitions.

all you've succeeded in doing is godwining yourself by used the tired cliche of liberals = nazis.

Hey, speaking of people who don't know the definition of things - that's not a Godwin.

Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of other situations (or one's opponent) with Nazis – often referred to as "playing the Hitler card".

Pointing out that Nazi-ism was a type of progressive mentality doesn't qualify, because it's accurate. You not liking the accuracy of the comparison notwithstanding.

in short: you're ignorant.

But less so than you, so I'd call that a win.

I've replaced 4 car windows so far. I now feel obliged to keep signs on all my windows explaining that my hybrid is on, that the AC is on, that it is cooler inside the car than outside, that hybrids can be very quiet when they are turned on.

Nobody gives a fuck about your rationale, the fact is by leaving children/animals alone in the vehicle you are being negligent, and at the very least deserve your window busted out.

FYI, death by overheating is not the only bad thing that can happen to a child/animal that's left alone in a car. When I was about 6 my dad left my brother (then 9) and myself alone in his truck... long story short, my brother knocked the truck out of gear and we went crashing through the neighbor's living room. Had their little girl been playing 3 feet to her left she would have been crushed.

Another anecdote, a friend of mine from work told me about how, once in the 1990's, his wife left their 3 daughters in a running vehicle while she ran in to a store. Some pervert stole the van and raped the daughters (all 3) before dumping the whole she-bang on the side of a back highway.

The moral here is, don't be a negligent fuck, and if you insist on being a negligent fuck, don't be surprised when someone who isn't breaks out your window and calls the police on you.
