Journal Journal: Comics collector

A friend of mine is a passionate comics collector. He is moving from his current home to a new one, and he wants to have an in-depth database of the comics he collected over the years.

What he needs is something more than a simple list of the titles, he wants the full credits and as much info as possible. He started doing it by hand but quickly figured out that having a 30 boxes of comics is maybe a bit too much. I suggested he uses a barcode scanner for the comics that have a barcode.

So here's the question: does anyone know of solutions that let you catalogue your comics using a barcode scanner, and get all the available info from that (authors, artists...), maybe using Amazon Webservices or a provided reference DB?

Could also someone post a comment? I just want to know if it works, someone told me it was impossible to post...

Journal Journal: Buying a new computer 2

Ok, so I'm gonna buy a new computer in a few weeks. I would like to spend around 1750 on it. This is what I want:
- I am gonna use it for games/internet/linux/win/programming
- It's gotta last 3 years at least
- No Windows bundled (I already have 2 originals!)
- It's gotta have a 17 inch, LCD display.

I am totally at a loss regarding the components. I would think a fast Intel would be better than AMD (that's because most music hardware has problems with AMD), and an Intel chipset on the MB is best for the same reason.
Regarding the video card, I've been advised to buy an ATI Radeon 9500.
What do you think? Do you have any suggestions?

Journal Journal: First Post

Ok, so this is my first post: I am still wondering if ANYONE will ever look at it - that's besides me of course.
Well, at least I will have /something/ on my journal page, :-P

Marco out.
