They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Look at recent outcry's over the Pepsi "pick up chicks" app or the "shaken baby" app. They may be tasteless but Apple let them through their "closed" system and caught hell for it. As a company they are really left with little choice but to somewhat sensor the material to mitigate lawsuits from "offended persons". If those apps made the grade, I shudder to think what drivel didn't.
I don't like it, but I understand it.
