This was the way the system used to work in the 18th century: Dr Johnson had to line up a number of sponsors before he produced his dictionary.

This is completely wrong. The Statute of Anne was introduced in 1710, when Johnson was less than one year old. And Johnson was contracted to write the dictionary by a group of London book-sellers who approached *him* for the task.

Oh, I don't. Many people are sincerly good people and are polite with it. You're not one of them. You're weren't looking for the best in someone, you were looking for the worst. You're the Wormtongue of this particular scene and your "Perhaps the latter..." is yet another example of your passive-aggressive crap. No doubt you were "just asking questions". Grow some balls and stop being the worst kind of human being. You could be better if you tried.

Submission + - OpenShot Video Editor Achieves $35k on Kickstarter, Final Goal in Reach! (kickstarter.com) 5

JonOomph writes: The popular open source video editor, OpenShot, has less than 39 hours remaining on popular crowd-funding site, Kickstarter.com. The lead developer, Jonathan Thomas, has proposed a revolutionary new feature, which would allow users to offload CPU, memory, and disk cache to a local server (or multiple local servers), dramatically increasing the speed of previewing and rendering. The more servers added to the pool, the faster the video editing engine becomes (with the primary limitation being network bandwidth). If the final goal of $40k is reached in the remaining hours, this feature will be added to the next version of OpenShot.

Surface Pro Sold Out; Was It Just Understocked? 413

TechCrunch is one of the many outlets to report that Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet computer sold out on its first day of wide availability. Business Insider points to Reddit threads complaining that "selling out" was largely a product of not having all that many in stock to begin with, in some cases not even enough to cover pre-ordered devices.
