If you want a little computer that is extremely mobile and can follow you to the meeting table or the bed then a slate device is where it's at. The technology simply wasn't there before. Most of the old tablets only worked with a stylus, the ones that had touch screens only had single-touch and were very poor at detecting them. Now we have multi-touch capacitive and much smarter software and more powerful hardware. The iPad still sucks because it is an overgrown iPhone, a novelty that keeps you locked into the app store. Windows slates will be useful. And before the mac fanboys start flaming me over "But windowz isnt design for touch", Windows 7 works very well for touch. Also, since it can run any windows software there will be more software specifically designed to help touch screen users.

Personally, I will be getting a new generation slate PC, probably the HP Slate or the Hanvon BC10C.

Personally, I have to look for a hosting company with active public forums and public conversations between users and the staff. This makes all of the difference in the world. You don't want a company that is trying to hide from you. The more public communication and discussion the better. IRC is always a plus. Other key points: Good contact information, good references on the web... and a good web site. After all a hosting company should be web savvy enough to not be using tables and HTML 4 frames.

Really, it's time. No more Java desktop apps, especially IDEs.

That's the idea, and that's why their marketing is geared towards the lowest common denominator. The want to hook granny up for $140/mo and see almost no usage from her. But when someone who can actually use that connection comes along, they accuse the customer of "abusing" the service. In my area there are only two choices for internet, AT&T DSL, and Comcast Cable. I'm sticking with my AT&T even though it is slower just because they don't care if I peg my connection 24x7.

The press is allowed to post anything newsworthy, no matter how the information got into their hands, even if it was acquired via illegal actions. So long as the press organization and it's agents have not done anything illegal to get it.

I think if large deposits of easily mined gold were discovered on mars then there would be a hell of a lot more interest in getting there. The logistics still do not exist, but at least people would start really working on solutions. Which would be a big improvement, right now space travel is viewed as a novelty. Make it something useful and productive and we'll see huge advancements in short periods of time.

As much as I love NASA and the space program, it is time to private companies to start building an industry out of it. Only when private companies find profits in space will we see real progress. Unfortunately, no one has thought of a way to make money off of it yet. Other than insanely rich tourists.

Newspapers are a dieing media. The time when everyone pays for a subscription to get yesterdays news is over. This is just the frustration of a billionaire watching his format die. If he was willing to adapt and embrace new media then he would find new ways to make money. To bad, we need good journalists in new media, not stuck in the past with angry old men.
