Comment Paying for payments (Score 1) 281

Why don't all companies do this? It's genius! "We'd be glad to accept your payment, but you will pay a payment to make that payment." Maybe they could also charge for paying the payment through the payment service? Holy shit...you could get thousands of dollars out of any bill you send eventually, just by making people jump through enough hoops. BRB starting my own business.

A lot of people like their government-imposed veils, and they really, truly believe the propaganda deep down. Even in the U.S., after the Wikileaks stories broke, a lot of people agreed with the state line, saying "Some things need to be kept secret and the government needs to have its secrets for our own protection". One or two good mouthpieces and the talking points will get out.

Congress sees Christmas as a distraction for the public; it's a time for passing unpopular legislation while everyone is tied up with friends and family, too busy to call their congressman. It is a very good thing that it has been killed for the holiday season.

The traditional news outlets have given it very little coverage, but the internet will not let the fight die.

Laws are keeping the price of artificial property artificially high. Every other industry has their prices set by what the market will bear. The artificial property industry gets to set their prices wherever they want and have their non-sales bolstered by lawsuits and extortion.

This bill is a step in the wrong direction, albeit a smaller one.
