You can fill software positions. I guess if you're an insecure boss who only wants to hire people H1B so you can pay them less, treat them like crap, and they're almost forced to stay with the same company; then this will work out for you. Oh and software developers from India don't really want to come over to the US as much as they used to.

The point is, these deaths easily be avoided. 35,000 a year is a lot. You can take .014 and multiply by 80-100 for each year of your life and it's a 1% chance. There is an easy solution right in front of us. And people are always going to drive drunk, no matter how much you educate them. And some people are just going to be bad drivers. And sometimes there will just be human error, fog, or other hazards that a computer will avoid. This freedom argument is garbage when you're endangering other people's lives.

Yet no one seems to care. 500 US troops die a year in the middle east and it's a huge deal. These are 35,000 deaths that can easily be avoided. And that's only in the United States Yeah there'll be a few deaths, but probably 99% of the 35,000 will be avoided. Everyone should be forced to own one of these considering how many pedestrians are run over. People have to get over their own greed to drive a car fast though.

There is so many things HTML 5 can't do like print. Silverlight out of browser applications are great because they are very easy to update. I guess people will just download apps instead of going to websites then.

Plugins like Silverlight are needed for out of browser business apps that need to print and run reports. Out of browser apps look like real desktop apps, without the painful install. And as an ex-Java/Perl developer, Silverlight is the best language I've ever used

Sounds like you haven't looked at Microsoft or .NET development in 15 years.

I guess no one knows about putting asp.net on Azure, or rackspace could, or even 1and1 cloud, all those you can scale on the click of a mouse. As for former Java Developer, I can create ASP.NET applications in 1/3 of the time. Visual Studio IDE, is so much better than eclipse or intellij or whatever. Not to mention maintenance when you have to support 10+ 3rd party plugins, all which have various compatibily issues on the web server that you decide to pick. Sometimes it's not good to have so many options and things just work.

First off I agree with one post, if you have to ask slashdot, you probably are in over your head. There are many $5-$10 hosting sites that will give you all you need, a directory to drop your asp.net files in and a shared database. If your site grows (99.9% of the time it won't), then swtich to a virtual or dedicated machine hosted by one of those large hosting companies. And for all you MS bashers, MS has many price points, from free to enterprise. With open source many times you still have to pay just as much if you get big. And if you have so much traffic that you have to buy all enterprise level MS products, it shouldn't be that much of a cost cus you should be making a lot of money.

I ment operating system. You can't even run flash.

Now that I can get cheevos for xbox live on my windows phone 7, I've tossed my DS. Playing for cheevos is much for fun that having a great score on a DS game that no one can see. I got 50k Cheevos and going now!

As long as you follow PMS Programming standards you are fine. Most depends on you situation, most places don't have the budget to do things the "Best Way"
