Comment I ditched OO for Google Docs... (Score 1) 2

As a result of the fallout, I moved to the cloud. The plan was to wait for the dust to settle, for LibreOffice to get accepted into most of the mainstream distros and for the bugs to be ironed out.

But having used Google Docs exclusively for quite a while now, I honestly don't think I'll be switching back to OO/LO. Google Docs does everything I need. I'd encourage people to take a good look at it and perhaps use it exclusively for a while to see if you're missing anything from the 'real' applications.

Submission + - Oracle cans commercial OpenOffice (arstechnica.com) 2

castrox writes: "Oracle gives up on development of the commercial branch of OpenOffice. The reason appears to be the drain of mindshare from OpenOffice to the newly created, vendor neutral, LibreOffice fork. Control is to be handed over to the community. I guess we'll see the details to this handover in the coming days or weeks."

I'm completely with you, although it took me years to realize what you say is the correct way to think about this problem. Nonetheless, I put my 'cannot lose' stuff into the ol' Dropbox and that's it. Half-yearly I distribute my music library to a a few select locations around the globe. But to be honest, I would be upset for perhaps 30 minutes if it all disappeared.
