It's an interesting day for the KDE community. At one hand they announced the death of two projects — Vivaldi tablet and Improv board, on the other hand Krita (a KDE software) has reached its goal of raising Euro 15,00 on Kickstrater, which means they can now hire the developer, designer they needed to further improve the image editing software. The campaign is not over yet and there are eight more days left so the project will continue to get more money.

It’s a sad day for free software as one of the most ambitious free software projects, Improve, is officially dead. Along with the board also dies the promising Vivaldi tablet. The developers have sent out emails to the backers of the project that they are pulling plugs on these. The end of the Improv project also means a disappointing end to the KDE Tablet project, as Aaron Seigo was funding both projects out of his own pocket (almost exactly $200,000 spent).

Ubuntu flavors have just announced the first alpha of for version 14.10 aka Utopic Unicorn. Only exception being Xubuntu which has not made any alpha’s available. Ubuntu itself doesn’t make alpa or beta releases anymore. They have moved to a weekly snapshot which allows developers to focus on rigorous testing continuously instead of wasting time on packaging alpas, betas and release candidates. If you are using any of the daily build you are already running the latest packages from Ubuntu.

The Gnome team has announced the release of version 3.13.3, which is now available for download and testing. There are many major enhancements and features in this release. According to Mathias Clasen of Gnome, “Highlights in this release include Adwaita as the default GTK+ theme, network awareness in our sharing infrastructure, a new design for yelp and add-on support in gnome-software.” The developers are aiming to have Gnome 3.14 available in Fedora 21. Fedora users can try out the release by using a repository created by Richard Hughess.

What is common between The Conspirator, Death of a President, JFK, The Day of the Jackal and Shooter? Full of twisted plots, these movies are based on President Assassination plots. A similar plot is bearing the wrath of the government of North Korea, which has taken serious offense to Seth Rogen’s upcoming film titled The Interview. North Korea has raised issues with the film. Most US audience would say 'there should be freedom of expression'.
This makes me wonder if there are any Hollywood films that show the assassination of a real and not a fictional US President. Or are there films that revolve around the plot of murdering the current US President? However, what I do remember is that the US Army banned the sale of Medal of Honor video game as the game allowed you to play as an Al Qaeda member and attack US troops. Do you think a writer can ever dare to work on a film plot about the assassination of the current US President?
While we are at it, does Quentin Tarantino has the courage to re-write the history and show the murder of John F Kennedy in a satirical way? Feel free to write in to us about what you feel about this

Google has just made available the first developer preview of Android 7 (aka Android L) for download and install. The image is available for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013 also known as Flo). If you are someone like me who can’t wait to try out the latest software then this article will help you in installing it on your device. Nexus 7 users must bear in mind that the developer preview is available only for Nexus 7 WiFi version 2 released in 2013. Please don’t try it if you have older or 3G Nexus 7.

The Linux Mint team has announced the release of Linux Mint 17 KDE codenamed Qiana. It’s based on KDE Software Compilation 4.13.0. There are many improvements in things like 'update manager' which improves the use experience and also show which type of updates are these. Then the device manager has also improved and it can install drivers even when the machine can't connect to the Internet as most drivers are available in the iso itself.

Amazon is going to launch its smartphone today and according to reports it would be exclusive to A&T, again. You are back to 2007 when Apple launched the iPhone exclusively to AT&T leaving everyone else out of it. While Amazon will be able to cut cost and make the phone even cheaper (Amazon devices are either way not known for good hardware). The deal may also put Amazon devices in brick and mortar store of AT&T for people to see as Kindle devices have been kicked out of Walmart and Target and despite Amazon's monopoly on online retail their Kindle is nowhere as hot as is Chromebooks. So there is some benefits for Amazon. Now the question is will people by an AT&T locked device?

Valve has announced that its Steam Machines won’t be available in the market anytime in 2014. The company delayed the release due to ongoing work on the Steam Controller. Valve’s Eric Hope explains on Steam Forums why the work on controller is causing the delay: “We’re now using wireless prototype controllers to conduct live playtests, with everyone from industry professionals to die-hard gamers to casual gamers. It’s generating a ton of useful feedback, and it means we’ll be able to make the controller a lot better. Of course, it’s also keeping us pretty busy making all those improvements. Realistically, we’re now looking at a release window of 2015, not 2014,"

Developers need access to device running the platform for which they develop. Nexus was Google’s reference device and now Mozilla is coming out with its own device. Mozilla has opened pre-order for Flame, its Firefox OS reference devices, from everbuying.com for $170 including free shipping.
