Comment Re:Are you crazy if you rush out and install it? (Score 2, Funny) 647

I don't even know what this new OS does that would make me want to get it. Literally. Did they at least make some tweaks to the UI to make it seem different from the previous version? I only upgraded to Leopard in the first place because I lost my Tiger disk and couldn't get bootcamp installed. I actually got Leopard on the day it came out and had to wait in line outside the apple store like some sort of jerk who was enthusiastic about that sort of thing.

Comment It's called School. They teach writing there. (Score 1) 494

Didn't you go to school? You spend a good 12 years of your life writing on paper pretty much every day. When you hit university you become a master at writing by hand. The only real option is that you were never good at writing to begin with.

It's not like leetspeak was invented by some English professor who just sat down at a computer one day and said 'hey replacing letters with numbers is a lot easier than just using regular words'. It was invented by dumbass kids who weren't any good in school, never read books and played video games all the time. Really, is that the sort of environment where great literary minds flourish?

Comment Re:It would be really nice... (Score 1) 427

I can attest to that. I had a 62" high def tube tv. The bulbs went on the damn thing and it's mind numbingly expensive to get those things replaced. Since it was the size of an upright grand piano I'd have to rent a van just to haul it to the repair place. So I decided to cut my losses and just throw it out. Since a decent flat screen will run you around $600 it makes way way way more sense to just go with one of those models. Save some back pain anyhow.

Comment Did you read those notes? (Score 1) 490

I'm finding it mind bogglingly stupid to think that a university would actually tell potential employers NOT to hire their graduates. Why in the hell would anyone attend that school if it would openly sabotage their graduates?

I think what's going on here is the schools are trying to dispel myths about hiring international students. I.e. students who came from other countries to study at THEIR school. So that would be the opposite of sabotaging their graduates. This summary is extremely disingenuous.

Oh please!

The Liberals are at the same corporate trough as the Conservatives.
Remember Paul Martain? Do you remember him, our former prime-minster? The one who didn't want to pay Canadian taxes on his ships so he registered them outside the country and staffed them all with foreign workers, yet still called his shipping company 'Canadian Shipping'. Do you remember him? Do you remember the private copying levy that the Liberals introduced back in 1997? Where we have to pay extra money on all blank media we buy here to compensate the poor media companies and the losses they incur? The Liberals have ZERO problem with enacting the same laws.

If you want a leader who's against new copyright laws you have to look to the ones who're anti-american like the Bloc, and the NDP, or Green.

Comment Just drop your cable. (Score 4, Insightful) 257

It's probably already been said before but just drop your cable all together. Anything you could want to watch is available online.

Just over a month and a half ago my tv broke. So I decided to just get rid of it rather than buy a new one. So I canceled my cable all together, and I just use my computer to watch whatever I want and it's bloody fantastic. You don't realize it till you don't have cable precisely how useless and overpriced it is. Most people have a set number of shows they want to watch and that's about it. Maybe some extra news, which you can just get off whatever news site you want. New episodes show up on bittorrent with a lot of seeders so it only takes an hour or so to get them, and you can watch them at your leisure. It's a lot like having a PVR except you pay a lot less.
It should also be noted that I watch a LOT less now. Since I don't have the outright waste of channel surfing just watching crap because there's nothing *good* on.

I also hooked up my 360 to my monitor and it works just as well as my tv. Maybe a little smaller but the quality is still there. Computer monitors and projectors are getting cheaper and cheaper, despite most ISP's efforts high speed internet is abundant, and cable's fast becoming an anachronism.

Comment It's a TV!! (Score 5, Funny) 277

It's a damn TV! Not every bloody piece of technology is supposed to be able to have something to do with Linux. You want internet on your TV? Run a video cable from your computer to your TV and use a wireless keyboard and mouse. There you go. Internet on your TV!

You Linux users get right on my nerves most of the time.
'Is this microwave open standards compliant?'
'Is this toaster open source?'
'Does anybody know where I can get a Linux compatible table lamp?'
'Has anyone tried installing Linux on an alarm clock?'

I tells ya it never ends!

Comment Re:Prehistoric Gene FTW! (Score 5, Funny) 360

Unfortunately no. By using the 'pwned' in reference to a potentially major scientific breakthrough you've actually made AIDS mutate to become airborne and highly contagious.

It's called the 'Nantucket Principle'. Where using idiotic phrases in reference to intelligent work causes the work to be destroyed.

Another case of this principle at work was when the Wright brothers tried their first airplane prototype. Just before they were going to do their first test flight Orville said something to the effect of 'We are going to codfloddle this strumpet!' which caused Bernoulli's principle to completely change, setting flight back many years.

So you have to watch it.

Comment Ignorance is Bell's best friend. (Score 2, Funny) 310

Bell's current business model pretty much relies on people not caring about the shit they pull.

It's sort of interesting (or infuriating depending if I'm trying to use the internet..). My new ISP makes it no secret they hate everything Bell does. I think that largely has to do with them leasing their lines from Bell, and having their service screwed up when Bell does things of this nature. I imagine I'll be getting an email from my ISP soon telling me who to complain to about the service getting buggered yet again. Thanks Bell, I'll be by your office in the morning with a fresh cinderblock. I see you replaced your front window from the last time I put one through it.
