How many times IRL have you heard a female friend say "Looks don't really matter to me. I'm just looking for a nice guy,"

Zero. I have never heard a woman say that. I think the idea of the woman who says this is made up by men who have no other quality other than being "nice" and want someone to blame for their lack of romantic success.

as much as javascript is as shit as python, it's like that annoying relative that you just can't get rid of so you may as well get used to

I'll agree with you for the most part about Javascript, but I don't understand your disdain for Python, and also not sure why you think it's so hard to get rid of. From my experience, it's not all that widely used (and it's also very easy to use and not nearly as cludgy as Javascript).

I grew up in a fundamentalist Christian household, and while it took a while to shake off the emotional baggage associated with such an upbringing, I am now a productive member of society and opponent of creationism being taught on the tax payer's dollar. While one's beliefs are likely to be influenced by their parents', each individual still has the ability to form their own belief system, and I chose science and reason.

Sorry, but lack of familiarity with the basic constructs of your language of choice is definitely a bad indicator. Being a good programmer means more than just knowing how to do the things you've already done. You need to know your language, platform, etc., so that you can spot issues or create solutions. Fizz Buzz is only a stupid test because it is so easy. It sounds like you think the "ability to research and find solutions" means that you can find a solution to your problem to copy+paste off of Stack Overflow.

I haven't done any hiring yet in my career, but just hearing this line so often blows my mind. How does one complete a Computer Science or Software Engineering degree, and make it through over a year of employment as a programmer without being able to write a Fizz Buzz program in his or her language of choice?

Not sure what the point you're trying to make is; GGP suggested that Blockbuster couldn't have fought against Netflix since Blockbuster offered a physical product while Netflix offered data. I was pointing out that this was false, because Netflix started out by mailing DVDs around.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if Canonical isn't noticing a trend of users switching from Unity to other desktops, and if this is a way of combating that. If Unity is the only major desktop using Mir as opposed to X or Wayland, than it's probably going to be more of a pain to switch desktops, and that software written for Ubuntu might not be as portable across different Linux desktop environments.
