Actually according to the New Yorker's Jony Ive profile, Apple requires that all its employees, engineers included, have an eye for design. They won't hire you if you're borderline autistic. And when a designer (one of Ive's team) walks into a meeting it's like a high priest has graced the peons with his presence. Everything at Apple is done with deference to form and design. For example, this is probably why the original Macbook Air (and now the new Macbook) had only one USB port, until widespread criticism led to them adding another.

I agree with the article proposing a year long DST. I really look forward to setting my clock an hour ahead and getting an extra hour of daylight in the afternoon. I love the really late sunsets in summer. I'm not a morning person, and the dark mornings don't have much of an effect on my emotional state. And really, even without DST in the winter, most off us in the midwest wake up and go to work in the dark. Sunrise is just really late, and it sucks coming back home in the dark.

You're almost certainly talking to people who were born in America. The ones who left India usually do it for economic opportunity. The "brain drain" that occurs b/c people want more financial security. In Western countries every first generation Indian family pushes their children to be doctors, and to marry doctors, so they can be rich. I think that's screwed up.

If women were all so unhappy society wouldn't be able to exist. Eastern cultures value interdependence and harmony. I don't know why you think rapists and child molesters aren't punished. If a woman doesn't report a crime then yes the rapist will go unpunished, but that's true in every country. No one likes child molesters, anywhere at all.
