Okay, genetics helps of course, but the point is that genetics doesn't change over the course of a person's life in order to make him/her resistant to a disease. Either it's there from conception or it's not; however, acquired resistances throughout life are passed from mother to child as well through blood pre-birth and breast milk post-birth.

These are, in fact, on topic. Grandparent referencing 1984 changing past records which relates to the sales of this book which were undone while also referencing Monty Python at the same time.

My reply was then a devil's advocate post about a danger of the current noun and why the "greater good" might be better served by the second noun while continuing the Monty Python reference.

All very on-topic so I'm confused. Mod can't see past the humor I guess.

Submission + - Microsoft Sets Windows 7 Launch For Oct. 22 (computerworld.com)

CWmike writes: "Microsoft will put Windows 7 on store shelves and computer makers will have systems ready to sell with Vista's successor on Oct. 22, the company confirmed today. Microsoft will also offer discounted or free upgrades to Windows 7 to users who buy PCs in the months leading up to the operating system's launch in a program dubbed 'Windows Upgrade Option,' a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. Although the name is new, the program had been reported as early as January, when a usually-reliable Web site leaked information about the deal, including its July 1 kick-off."

Submission + - GM Hummer To Be Sold to China (yahoo.com)

An anonymous reader writes: According to Associated Press, GM has an agreement to sell its Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. of China, said a person briefed on the deal. For now, the deal would save 3000 jobs, but it is expected most of the jobs will be moved to China. Before you worry about soldiers of US army and marines riding on Chinese made jeeps, you should also note that GM China has made recorded sales in China, despite of its parent's woe in the US. I personally did notice quite a lot more Buick's running in the city of Shenzhen than on the streets of California. When I was over there, I owned a Buick myself which was made in China but with US-made engines and transmissions; whereas i own a Japanese car here in California. Strange world.

Lala Invents Network DRM 212

An anonymous reader writes in with a CNet story about the record label-backed music company Lala, which claims to have invented "Network DRM." Lala has filed for a patent on moving DRM from a file wrapper, like Windows Media and FairPlay, to the server. Digital music veteran Michael Robertson has quotes from the patent application on his blog. (Here is the application.) Lala describes an invention that monitors every access, allows only authorized devices (so far there are none), blocks downloads, and can revoke content at the labels' request.
