Yes, but in my opinion, they could have made a lot of money whit those IP address, i mean, if they are yours, you can sell them, lets say 1 Dollar each one, that's, 3 +2 = 5 -4 = 1 ..... 16 Megadolars :D not bad. What about the other big companies, will they give it for free.

On the other hand, they would worth nothing after IPV6 is completely adopted and giving them away now could benefit you with the karma (public image) of your company. but we all know that IPV6 will take a really long time before it actually gains some kinetic movement.

Duke Nukem Forever Back In Development 356

An anonymous reader writes "'Always bet on Duke.' It seems he was right about himself, at least. The longest, most storied in-development game in history seems like it's finally going to be released by Gearbox Software sometime within the next year. 'According to Pitchford, Gearbox began finishing Duke Nukem Forever in late 2009. "Clearly the game hadn't been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created," he says. "The approach and investment and process at 3D Realms didn't quite make it, and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software we brought all those pieces together. It's the game it was meant to be." The game is currently expected to ship in 2010 although given its history Pitchford is understandably reluctant to be more specific.'"

I could not agree more whit you, but i think if that happened Intel and AMD would be out of bossiness or can someone explain me why window 7 requires 2 GB of ram, core 2 duo and all that fancy new hardware to almost the same that windows 98 and windows 98 required only 256 Mb and a 350 MHz CPU?

KDE

KDE 4.5 Released 302

An anonymous reader writes "KDE 4.5.0 has been released to the world. See the release announcement for details. Highlights include a Webkit browser rendering option for Konqueror, a new caching mechanism for a faster experience and a re-worked notification system. Another new feature is Perl bindings, in addition to Python, Ruby and JavaScript support. The Phonon multimedia library now integrates with PulseAudio. See this interview with KDE developer and spokesperson Sebastian Kugler on how KDE can continue to be innovative in the KDE4 age. Packages should be available for most Linux distributions in the coming days. More than 16000 bug fixes were committed since 4.4."

Extreme Memory Oversubscription For VMs 129

Laxitive writes "Virtualization systems currently have a pretty easy time oversubscribing CPUs (running lots of VMs on a few CPUs), but have had a very hard time oversubscribing memory. GridCentric, a virtualization startup, just posted on their blog a video demoing the creation of 16 one-gigabyte desktop VMs (running X) on a computer with just 5 gigs of RAM. The blog post includes a good explanation of how this is accomplished, along with a description of how it's different from the major approaches being used today (memory ballooning, VMWare's page sharing, etc.). Their method is based on a combination of lightweight VM cloning (sort of like fork() for VMs) and on-demand paging. Seems like the 'other half' of resource oversubscription for VMs might finally be here."

iPhone vs. Android Battle Goes To Afghanistan 146

redlined writes "Cell phones are tired of waiting for the troops to come home and are going to war themselves. Tech startup Berico Tailored Systems, Lockheed Martin and apparently an army of Slashdot users are currently making tactical 3G cellular networks and smartphone applications for the military to use overseas. While DARPA has held a competition to develop iPhone and Android applications, tactically-deployable 3G networks from companies like those above should open up a slew of opportunities for Apple and Google to duke it out on an actual battlefield."

A bether solution would be this automated self destructing HD that can be remotely destroyed :D

"The Enhanced Hard Drive solves the problem of computers that are lost or stolen. A new hard drive feature will become the last word in data protection. A destruction technology is imbedded in the hard drive casing and can be initiated by as many as 17 remote triggers. Once deployed, the data stored on the disks is destroyed beyond forensic recovery. The process is non-toxic, non-combustible and does not cause any collateral damage to the other parts of the computer. The process is self-powered. In other words, the drive does not need to be in the computer for the system to operate." http://www.deadondemand.com/products/enhancedhdd/
