Comment Where's the beef? (Score 1) 342

Lots of people commenting that Microsoft is missing the point: Apps.

But they're not missing the point. Anything written for .NET won't need a recompile for the new architecture. In fact, I'd imagine that's part of their plans for world domination: Imagine the power of targeting one platform, and having your stuff run on Xbox360 (console), Winodws Phone 7 (mobile / tablet), and Desktop (x86/arm)?

I don't think they're getting the credit they deserve, here.

I put a few months into something that might be called a tetris clone for the iPhone and iPad. It's not in the store because it too closely resembles tetris. It has a grid, and some square blocks. They fall, sometimes. Total hogwash. If you want to play it, send me your device id (slashdot-tetris-clone@kraln.com)

Comment Been waiting since April 14th (Score 0, Offtopic) 397

I've been waiting since April 14th for my latest application to be 'approved'. It's called iTakeCredit, and I submitted it around the time that those new appstore ads (with the credit card terminal) went live.

My page for it is here: http://www.soulstrewn.com/itakecredit

It's not that complex an application, and my games and other stuff have gone through in the past much more rapidly. This is getting to be just silly.

Comment appcrave iPhone reviews do the same thing (Score 1) 202

I sent a promo code to appcrave for them to review an iPhone app I wrote -- they replied back essentially saying "No guarantee, unless you give us $50. We don't publish bad reviews if you give us money. Advertising starts at $400, and you get a free good review" Yick. Bad taste in my mouth.

Comment I've been highly affected by app-store piracy. (Score 1) 610

There are two things that people jailbreak their phones for: Running software that Apple doesn't want on the phones (backgrounder, some emulators, tethering) and running software that was downloaded/purchased illegally. Honestly, such a small minority of people jailbreak only to unlock their sim cards that I won't even consider them.

As to the former: Fine, have your slowed down devices, play your roms (also illegal, btw), violate your service agreements, that's on you.

As to the latter: You are stealing. You are stealing food from the tables of the developers, and they don't like it. If you keep cannibalizing the talent on the app store, it will cease to create stuff that's interesting.

I wrote a post-mortem on my blog discussing some of this stuff: http://www.kraln.com/?p=108. It really makes me sick.
