You have it bass ackwards. By acquiring a trademark on "Google", Google Inc. now has an obligation to prevent similarly-sounding similar products from existing in public lest they subsequently lose the trademark. I can empathize, but the poster basically painted a bullseye on themselves when they chose that name.
This isn't "if you can't beat them, join them", it's "BE A FLAMING ASSHOLE BECAUSE I'M COMCAST". All they need to do is price their offering at $50 or so for a year or two to kill off the municipal service, then they will be able to jack it up to $110 and watch it all burn.
