I agree with the wikipedia entry that states "Nerd is a term that refers to an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit". That would explain why Wired include the D&D book in it's nerd's list. After all, being obsessed about D&D fits that definition.

Have you considered using a place like http://www.smashwords.com/ to publish your books? I've got a Nook Color and a lot of the free/cheap books I get from B&N is from them. The only really bad think is they want a .doc file.

Don't forget that there's still a lot of commercial unix in the work place. Most of those OS's don't come with python or ruby and the perl that does come with them tends to be old and not have very many useful modules already. Learn ksh/bash and you can write scripts on any modern Unix-like OS; only learn perl/ruby/python/current-flavor-of-the-day-language and you won't.

I agree. I bought my daughter a Vostro 200 with a C2D 2.0, 2 GB, DVD+-RW and 250GB drive for $400 shipped about a year ago. While it probably won't run Crysis, it does quite well with things like Half-Life 2 and Sims2 even though it's got an integrated graphics card.

Oh, and since I ordered it from the Dell Business side, the only cr@pware installed on it was the Google Desktop and Acrobat Reader.
