I switched to CenturyLink 10mbit DSL because I suffered a dramatically reduced income, after having been on the 50/10 Comcast tier. I even had to spend some time in a pretty poor town. I had my full 10mbit there. Most of my neighbors there we're on centurylink, many using their IPTV-based PRISM service because it was cheaper than comcast and more reliable than satelite. I even worked with CL Engineers in diagnosing a broken fiber run into town. The way I see it, CL is still mostly an ATM based DSL provider and they ultimately have a lot more work cut out for them and with not nearly the resources Comcast has, in upgrading their entire networks.

Yes, it would be far better they were on the streets rather than in their homes. many a childhood has been wrecked with less than 5mbit. comcast really should be diverting these funds toward boarding schools, eh? if comcast isn't parenting my kids for me, they must be doing it wrong.

While Bill Gates isn't necessarily wrong, this is kind of awkward to see. I'm glad that Bill Gates cares enough to help countries in need of healthcare reform, however i would imagine those same countries would be glad for technologies that would enable them to figure out things like that for themselves. They are both covering relatively immediate needs.

So, I wonder if Bill Gates has considered asking Google's humanitarian projects if they might like to dedicate some resources to helping improving (and reducing cost of) the tech side of healthcare, which would be of the best ways to use a resource like Google, aside from throwing money at the problem.

I am pretty certain that as long as the human population continues to grow and time marches on, the majority of these options will always be in a constant state of reform. However, I believe we have far more time to positively effect changes for all but our impact on the environment. We need better and cleaner energy, faster. We need Hydrogen. Its abundant. Forget improving solarpanel efficiency by a fraction of a percent; this is NOT progress. I don't care about stupid wind turbines. I do not WANT a hybrid car. Hybrid cars are a perfect example of a bandaid solution. They suck. You can't even use the electric motor to oscillate a higher speed after accelerating with gas. STUPID.

I personally like the idea of integration with my Windows boxes, but the iPad has existed for some years now. I can't believe that MS wants to price their new tablet comparably with the iPad when their customers are essentially going to be beta testing their new OS, on new hardware. MS should have kept hardware costs low for the first attempt, TRIED to price the unit between an android tablet and the iPad, while growing their brand new software garden.

Keep in mind, i'm of the type to think the iPad is still overpriced, despite their proven success.

I see that many comments include utilities that may or may not indicate ACTUAL problems. Some of these test for speed, but how? Personally, i find the most accurate way to test storage media (and network media) is by copying data to and from the storage media in question, to a RAMDISK. For network throughput, i like to copy ramdisk to ramdisk via differing protocols, ie ftp/http/samba, etc. (i run a small ramdisk as a virtual folder in IIS (win7) for hosting small files to give to friends.) Also, installing (cpu/mem/gpu) benchmark utilities to a ramdisk yields interesting results. i don't believe most or all benchmark utilities are ACTUALLY unhindered by storage media when testing other components, like the cpu.

this is how to make this article irrelevant. that dial for depth control? that needs to be a 3 way switch for min, middle and max. the dial itself? convergence. our webcams don't interface with your software to detect pupil position/distance, yet. please fix this as well as plaster the importance of adjusting convergence (preferably at max depth, imo) by adjusting til the gun in their hand is crystal, then adjust slightly for range. using the webcam idea as a calibration springboard, if you could then adjust convergence from outside of the game automatically at a comfortable rate based on what the ingame 'camera' is looking at and fixing this treacherous laser sight bs, i'd be ecstatic.
