EA Shuts Down Pandemic Studios, Cuts 200 Jobs 161

lbalbalba writes "Electronic Arts is shutting down its Westwood-based game developer Pandemic Studios just two years after acquiring it, putting nearly 200 people out of work. 'The struggling video game publisher informed employees Tuesday morning that it was closing the studio as part of a recently announced plan to eliminate 1,500 jobs, or 16% of its global workforce. Pandemic has about 220 employees, but an EA spokesman said that a core team, estimated by two people close to the studio to be about 25, will be integrated into the publisher's other Los Angeles studio, in Playa Vista.' An ex-developer for Pandemic attributed the studio's struggles to poor decisions from the management."

It wouldn't be the first time that something from the Toyota hybrid range patent has been questioned, I know a nasty little story about a patent lawyer, University and Toyota screwing an old man out of work he had done on a electric drive system that was very similar to the original hybrid vehicles from Toyota. Needless to say, Toyota made lots of money and the old man is hardly living a life he should be able to with the amount of personal investment he did in his invention.

Yeah i've used various rippers before but none seem to do the compression with all the bits audio and subtitle wise. I'll have a look at this later tonight, dont mind chucking a linux distro onto the machine to do this. Its going to be a very long task with my dvd backups as they are already using about 2.4TB and i'd like my HDD space back eventually.

MKV format as it allows me to rip all audio channels and even subtitles into one file... Not always on except the primary audio, some of the stuff is anime and i rather keep the japanese audio track with english subtitles when it comes to those.

Journal Journal: Mass Encoding DVD to MKV 7

I am wanting to finally start encoding my DVD collection for easy playback on a media centre, after much research I decided on using the MKV format as it allows me to rip all audio channels and even subtitles into one file. The trouble is, type DVD to MKV into google and there is a giant list of options and i am pretty sure most dont allow me to do it as i want. What software do you fellow slashdotters recommend?

Living in Australia I have the joy of having games censored for the localised version. Violent movies are still widely available in comparison, why is it that the games are always targeted and not the movies. There has been plenty of films i've watched over the years I wouldn't suggest to under 18's but for them it is suprisingly easy to hire said movies from the local video shop.

The big boys all follow that game plan, do as i say not as i do situation comes into play here. Dont be surprised at who does it, i know someone that owns an online music shop who has sent me tracks before(not from the stores selection though). Still have strong beliefs that there should be a yearly fee to allow us to access all this music none of this per song/album nonsense.
