Microsoft is probably the biggest offender here. In trying to provide better security to the end user, they end up bombarding them with warnings, which mean nothing bad 99% of the time (e.g. IE ssl warnings, UAC warnings, etc). Users start to think nothing of these, so they just start to ignore them.

Not to mention, there's 8 million ways to scam people on steam, most of which don't involve malware. And yes, when trading items away for nothing in return, it even makes you confirm "Yes, this is a gift" yet people still fall for scams left and right.

It's a very confusing feature. Even though it won't automatically download the tracks (I think that's another option), they will appear as if they were in your library. I had some music I bought years ago show up, I couldn't delete it, I tried to figure out why it was syncing (looked through every sync option and playlist), until I finally figured out that it was one of the few albums I had bought from iTunes, and that it was displaying it as a "hey, you can download this" album even though there were no traces of it on my phone.
If they could just have it say "not yet downloaded" or gray it out or something, it would be much more clear.

I like embedded boards, but most of them are just horrible value. If space/power/etc isn't an issue, grabbing a PC from a junk pile and throwing a couple NICs in it will be far more cost effective. Pretty much the only network-centric embedded board I've seen with truly good value was the Uibiquiti Routerstation Pro but sadly it's discontinued.

I think what they should have done, if anything, was reduce the amount of space taken up by the home button/speaker/camera to increase the screen size without actually increasing the phone's size. They probably could squeeze an extra inch of screen space out by doing that.

But many laws are designed with some level of discretion in mind. That is, the laws themselves are far more strict than any LEO would enforce, and thus they get to use their discretion to determine whether someone who is breaking a law is actually posing a threat to public safety.

TFA mentions that the screen uses rear-projection, so you could have multiple projectors to display the picture, and redundant cameras to capture it.

It doesn't necessarily need to be a permanent kill switch. It could disable the phone until it is returned to the rightful owner. Besides, if the kill switch doesn't physically damage the hardware of the phone in some way (or some other irreversible action), people will almost certainly find a way to bypass it.

I remember reading something a while back about how certain people's brains are just more geared towards programming and that other people simply won't really "get" it no matter how much you try to force it into their head. There should definitely be more programming classes available to those who want them, but if you're going to force the less tech-oriented students to take a tech class, it should be something that either teaches them general computer usage or helps them use computers in education.

That's another issue with how computers are used in education: you have to strike the perfect balance between "using teaching time and resources to teach technology" and "using technology to educate". Getting the wrong mix ends up screwing both aspects over since you end up with technology being forced into places it doesn't belong, or you end up with students who only know how to use a computer to do their homework.

My problem with contributing to Wikipedia is that I just don't see many opportunities to do so. I've had an account there for years with barely any edits on it. Why? because I'll obviously edit something if it's within my area of expertise and I know it's wrong or could be improved, but why would I be using wikipedia to look up something that I already know about? I don't have time to look through a bunch of wikipedia articles to find issues with them.

This inconveniences yourself much harder than it will inconvenience any attacker. Disabling DHCP, MAC filtering, and hiding SSIDs do nothing for actual security.

Most home routers have hardware capable of this (after plugging in a USB drive for storage) but the included OS doesn't support it.

They most likely DO require you to keep the service on, which gives me an idea. Put some completely arbitrary rule in your terms of service, like "You cannot run any services on port 11111". If a customer opens up that port, they get a phone call threatening to terminate their contract, unless they're under surveillance.
