"said people may believe in conspiracy theories because they're easier to understand than complex medical information."

I'd be willing to guess the reason people believe in conspiracy theories has more to do with content on talk radio and other mainstream media than an inability to understand complex medical information. Show me a mainstream media outlet that actually distributes sound complex medical information. There is zero profit in this information.

I visited my cardiologist the other day. All he spoke of was statin meds. Never once did he mention diet, exercise, or stress. There is profit in statins. No profit (for them) in healthy living.

We have slowing been destroying what it means to be a civic society for a long time. Not many people meet in the park these days to discuss ideas (or gossip) on Sunday afternoons.

And remember when Reagan said that "government is the problem". And all of those names on buildings at your local university? Someone's name on a building helps insure the university does that person's bidding.

So I have an idea.... why don't we stop giving our money to rich assholes or corrupt government assholes, and since neither will serve your interests, save your money. You will need it.

What this boils down to is we as a nation have decided that the government has very little role to play in our lives and we would rather have private enterprise run the show. With corrupt politicians this has become a self fulfilling prophecy. We used to own the government. Now private enterprise does. Watch as the US Postal Service is delivered to the hands of private enterprise in the next 10 years.

I would take this a step further. Banks and the money people will adopt the bitcoin protocol and harness it for private use. Then they will discredit (as we see now) bitcoin until the general public thinks of bitcoin as a joke. Then, surprise! You will have JPMcoin. BofAcoin.

The fundamentals are great. It is greed that will determine if the idea of digital currency is to benefit the money people or the common people.

What I don't trust is the servers that people store their coins/cash on. I transfer my BTC and cash in and out as needed. I invested in BTC. I mine BTC. I support BTC.

Anyone who reads any technology sites should know by now that computer systems are woefully unsecured. Why would anyone leave a few million bucks (or 20 for that matter) sitting on someone elses system.

The real irony of the exchanges disappearing is that people want an unregulated currency. Well, guess what comes along with unregulated currency? If you promote unregulated currency you had better be prepared to do the work yourself to deter theft, ponzi scheme or whatever snakes lay in the grass.
