By that same logic, though, you can flush most of Einsteins work too. We do not posses, nor are we likely to posses in our lifetimes barring alien intervention, the technology to directly test and observe either the General or Special theories of relativity. The math works, its elegant, and is therefore the best explanation people can come up with. String theory tries to tie the quantum aspects together with the space time and forces described by AE. Its only as credible as the information that its based on.

The guy is out on the most feeble of limbs with his multiverse idea, since 'string theory' itself is little more than conjecture... but to take the edge off the 'not science' rhetoric here, the guy is a very well regarded theoretical physicist. Is it any less scientific-wild-ass-guess than Hawkings' notions about black holes? No. He at least has enough clout to get data access to the CERN supercollider experiments, so its not like its -me- throwing this crap out there hoping it will stick.

Julian Assange should be whacked, and the entire operation scrapped. It serves no purpose except to incite and inflame already unstable activist asshats. I wonder though, how many people have been physically harmed because of that crap. It solves 0 problems and creates countless.

My only defense of VB in general is this.... if you are programming for Windows and the .NET framework anyway, then its tomato/tomato (pronounce the latter like a french douche). I write for and maintain several enterprise level apps in VB, and others in C#. It does not matter one damn bit which you use, they are equivalent in every way. The flaw in this otherwise sinister scheme would be: What kind of effort would it take, on the part of the would-be bad guys, to ensure that the components in question found their way into machines that were of any consequence? And once discovered, the retribution to the manufacturer would be harsh and most likely final, as in going out of business final. I am not saying that it would be impossible, only difficult in the extreme. I imagine that this kind of scenario would be so improbable (and since we are here talking about it, not likely to slip under the radar of people who need hardened machines, ergo the NSA chip factory) as to be a huge investment of time for the would be attacker without any real chance of success.

Yes, because that is exactly what we need, all apps should be online, even the OS! That way we can just subscribe to the software we want, and they can just bundle us up with all the stuff we need. And by cloud, of course, I mean the same, stupid, ridiculously imagined world were pc hardware is irrelevant and the almight internets holds everything we need, accessible from everywhere, no waiting, no outages, what could possibly go wrong? All my data is stored on someone elses hardware on a drive farm in Bangledesh? No problem! The people who imagine this very short-sighted 'utopia' deserve to get the 'All-you-care-use-it plan'! You get unlimited storage, unlimited email, unlimited search, office productivity apps, all for $89.99. Wow!!! -- The 'Cloud' is nothing but storage on the internet, new name, same shit...
