Enough with this already. There's no single fricking day where scientists doesn't find water somewhere outside earth. no wait, they actually found some evidence that there was water somewhere in the distant past. No single actual water molecule so far. Wake me up when water is really found. btw, i don't remember the origin of the saying but very relevant, human mind is very creative, one can look at frosted glass and see whatever he wants to see.

Anyone who takes bitcoins for compensation is insane.

Actually, offering payments in other currencies is done because of demand. Fluctuation is something which must be always considered. If a currency has high fluctuations you add a high risk margin on top of your exchange rate to compensate the possible loss because of possible fluctuation. Treasury departments are very aware of this currency trading risks and they can calculate the risk margin very precisely.
tl;dr High fluctuation means higher prices for the customers. Bitcoin as payment currency is not insane at all, if there'll be more demand, everyone will do that.

I don't understand how excluding USA is solving the privacy problem. If you ask me, despite all the bullshit from NSA, FBI, etc., I still don't think US is a lot worse than any other country. These privacy problems happen in many countries (if not all), but US there's a good platform to discuss. People discuss, protest, hack, etc. Excluding US would make things only worse. We should think about solutions which could protect privacy, e.g. Tor, open source software, encryption, etc.

Maybe it's not a bad decision. Not because of the reasons listed, but because sites like this doesn't provide a decent comment structure to allow any kind of useful discussions. Maybe it's better to use slashdot, reddit, etc. for discussions. I'm not against separating content production from discussions. Social media features (commenting, sharing, connecting, etc) are a hype now, every site is trying to add something. Most of the are not really useful. Maybe instead of trying to providing social media they should focus on the content.

Half an hour after I signed up for $780 I received the email telling it's now $695. Normally prices get lower with time, but this is very awkward, the product is not even in the market. There is a big mix up of crowd sourcing and traditional marketing. Now I'm confused as a consumer and Canonical is confused as... wait, what is Canonical now?

Not that I say it's not science, your argument is very weak. Just because you (for that matter anyone else) says it's science, doesn't make it true. For more than a century, lot's of people (including scientists) argued communism stuff is scientific. But you know what happened at the end. So I suggest you bring some better arguments.

Seriously, how many people are going to switch to Linux over this? Nobody.

I switched to Ubuntu after the Vista disaster. I didn't have any linux knowledge and it wasn't an easy switch. After many years of improvements, I think it's a lot easier now. On the other hand, I'm really nervous about what's going on in Ubuntu now. Amazon search in dashboard is something alarmed everyone. Ubuntu One integration in everything is also not something I want. If it'll come to a point that I'll need an Ubuntu One account for my daily tasks, I'll move away from Ubuntu as well. Same goes for android and google. Yes, I have a gmail account, I was using greader and g+, but when they turned off greader, I closed my g+ account and I see that it's integrated into every other app and many functionality is not available because of that. So I'm trying to move away from gmail as well. The question is: what are the alternatives?

There are two sides of this news. Of course one side is corruption and fraud - not that interesting, the usual story. The other side is more interesting. The news doesn't say "detectors were fake and didn't work", it says "they work nevertheless". This may not be a scientific fact as many would like to hear but nevertheless many people believe in it. So the question is why they work? Something is not proven scientifically means it's not possible? How about sixth sense?
