Given the fact that the gain will reach 0 one day. Its built in that it will happen.
That day the bitcoins will slowly get eroded away and lost in the big bucket in the sky.

In the end most bitcoins will mostly be nothings - lost bitcoins that will never be recoverable and the total worth of the bitcoin market will be highly exaggerated without anyone knowing if they still exists or are lost.

The scammers behind it has just moved from country to country and when done in one they moved on to the next. When gone through all the worlds countries they are back in the same old countries again.

So its still ongoing - they have never stopped. The fact that not Interpol has managed to stop them is a sure sign of the fact that the police is nearly incapable of stopping common criminals who operate out of other countries.

The fact that open source projects accept code from others don't mean that anyone can enter code into a project. New code is checked by a maintainer before being added to the project to make sure its dont suck like closed source code often does.

Most of the old bugs are not in open sourced projekt. Most of the open source projects find that security problems is in new code.

The smart people like me are slow to change to new code unless they have to because of security reasons. Doing that
other have time to find any bugs and straighten them out before we use the new code.

Its a win win from a security standpoint to use open source. If you want - you can always do your own code review if you think something fishy is going on.

Its definitly a joke. Its a very typical Linus joke.

As everyone know the US goverment has created laws that forbid anyone to publicly admit that they inserted backdoors into the code.

Sadly the slashdot editors aint too knowledgeable today so they actually accepted this so called "news" story.

Linus Torvalds Admits He's Been Asked To Insert Backdoor Into Linux 576

darthcamaro writes "At the Linuxcon conference in New Orleans today, Linus Torvalds joined fellow kernel developers in answering a barrage of questions about Linux development. One question he was asked was whether a government agency had ever asked about inserting a back-door into Linux. Torvalds responded 'no' while shaking his head 'yes,' as the audience broke into spontaneous laughter. Torvalds also admitted that while he as a full life outside of Linux he couldn't imagine his life without it. 'I don't see any project coming along being more interesting to me than Linux,' Torvalds said. 'I couldn't imagine filling the void in my life if I didn't have Linux.'"

Well, there are calculations saying that the cost is about 2% of global GPD to fix it. Thats a small sacrifies as I see it.

The cost to global GDP to not fix it - its higher...

Its like fixing a house - either you fix the roof or you let it rain in. It you let it rain in; sooner or later your whole house need to be rebuilt from scratch because its rotten from the inside.

Submission + - Forced Exposure - Groklaw is Over, Cites Privacy Concerns (groklaw.net)

gravious writes: pj, in her own words.

But I really know, after all my research and some serious thinking things through, that I can't stay online personally without losing my humanness, now that I know that ensuring privacy online is impossible. I find myself unable to write. I've always been a private person. That's why I never wanted to be a celebrity and why I fought hard to maintain both my privacy and yours."

> So this is the last Groklaw article. I won't turn on comments. Thank you for all you've done. I will never forget you and our work together. I hope you'll remember me too. I'm sorry I can't overcome these feelings, but I yam what I yam, and I tried, but I can't.

Submission + - PJ shutters Groklaw

The Cornishman writes: Early this morning, EDT, Pamela Jones, better known across the world as PJ posted what would appear to be her final article, marking the end of Groklaw. Her reason? The forced exposure which she feels from ubiquitous surveillance makes it impossible to continue to interact with Groklawers over the Internet, and she did always say she couldn't do Groklaw without email. As casualties of Big Brotherism go, this is pretty major. Personally, I thought Groklaw was a force for good in the world.
