So much for saving the atmosphere and keeping your SUV.

Croakyvoice writes: Sony released a new firmware for the PSP version 3.30 2 days ago and it featured the ability to accomadate larger video files and improvements to load times for PS1 games on the PSP. Reported on several forums was that anyone with Dark Alex Custom Firmware was being blocked from upgrading, but already Team C+D have released a new version of psardumper that decrypts the latest 3.30 firmware. We should see a new downgrader and custom firmware to follow very soon.

An anonymous reader writes: Like many Slashdotters, I find it necessary to leave my home PC running 24/7, for things like web or ftp servers, bittorrent, or simply to make sure I don't miss any messages on IRC or my instant messaging client. It has been about 3 years since I built my current PC, and keeping it running all the time uses a lot of juice. With my next PC I would like to do what I can to keep the power-consumption to a minimum, without sacrificing processing power or other features. What should I look for when choosing components for my PC, and what other ways are there to keep the power consumption down?

John writes: In an appearance at an Austin, Texas summit on public education, Steve Jobs said that teachers unions are detrimental to public schools. He further argued that schools should be run more like businesses and that technology alone couldn't improve education, according to an AP story.

"What kind of person could you get to run a small business if you told them that when they came in they couldn't get rid of people that they thought weren't any good?", Jobs added.

UK security and law enforcement agencies made nearly 439,000 requests to monitor people's phone calls, emails and post during a 15-month period, the spying watchdog has revealed.

But nearly 4,000 errors in requests were also reported within the same period between 1 January 2005 and 31 March 2006, according to a report from the Interceptions of Communications Commissioner (ICC).
