Comment Re:Nuclear, GMO (Score 2) 22

The only practical alternative to nuclear in many places is fossil fuel power generation which even when working perfectly is not safe for the environment.

Its a lot easier to predict when you know what gene you are transferring then old fashion selective breeding which we have practiced for 10s of thousands to years and managed to change this into this.

In Canada, federally, third party advertising on political issues during elections is allowed, but regulated with reporting requirements and spending limits.

Also corporate and union donations to political parties are banned and individual donation are limited to about $1,200 dollars per year.

Like the US we have constitutionally protected freedom of expression, but there is also section one which says, "The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society."

So freedom of expression can be limited in the name of democracy.

"If you take productive money and piss it away on boondoggle projects instead of useful purposes then it's a complete loss for the economy."

What about the most massive boondoggle project in history: World War II?

Massive increase in government spending, massing increase in government debt and massive increase in taxes all to build highly specialized equipment, ship it over seas and where it gets blown up.

The result: decades of economic growth and prosperity ending only with the rise of neo-Liberalism.
