Heck, a soekris or an alix board will do.

I know this is not related, but failure rate for soekris boards are close to 100% in three years. I'm not sure if problem is with power unit that they use, but very soon everything starts to fail and magic smoke comes out of soekris.

Now I might be wrong here but memory serves that in Sweden the retailers are forced to accept a return of old equipment of the same kind when you purchase a new one. My google-fu right now has failed me so I can't find a reference.

I might be that what was optional now will be mandatory and different countries could already have this in effect.

More googling suggests that this is how it is. /C

Mandatory in Finland also, can't recall how many years already. But it's not just that, you can also take your old electronics to local dump and recycle them for free. This also works for all other household item's that can be recycled, like old car batteries. No reason to throw them into river or park at night.

Comment Windows 8 on tablet (Score 1) 345

I'm running Windows 8 preview edition on my old Atom tablet. Metro works really well and i was amazed that it works with just 1GB of RAM (sure, more would be better). There are still some things missing, but it's very fast and way how apps are designed, makes it easy to port them for WP8 devices. I'm not big fan of Microsoft, but they could be on to something this time..

Article says they require $2 self test kit in every car. Well, here in Finland, they are actually thinking of installing device to car that would not allow car engine to run unless you regulary (15 min -> few hours) test your alcohol level. This device needs to be installed in EVERY car, new and old.

Second, web platforms are dead, and native apps that call web services are the new rage. It's just a better experience. Web platforms have been tried before since the 90s--see Java applets and ActiveX--and the experience is always poor. Nobody wants ChromeOS over iOS, Android, etc. Google has offered Native Client and Dart to compete performance-wise, but those are non-standard, Google-specific technologies

What are you talking about? Big part of your iOS and Android applications are already running in WebView. On desktop browser, think about Facebook and Google Apps. Web applications today have nothing to do with 90s Java or ActiveX crap.

Comment I really fould like to find x86 tablet (Score 1) 260

I'm too looking for tablet that would run just HTML5/JS web applications. Browser autostart is must and system needs to be locked so that you can't easily get to undelaying operating system (when normally using application). We currently do this with stripped down Debian that simply starts X and Chrome (fullscreen, with some plugins).

It works very well but now there is severe shortage of sub $500 x86 tablets. I'm trying to find tablet similar to ExoPC (or WeTab), but i have only found few POS 'superpads' that are very low quality (grayish plastic screen etc.). On the other side, there are many expensive indrustial type tablet, but they are too heavy and expensive.

Our application could run on ARM tablet, but rooting and hacking Debian into easily available Android devices is too hackish. When i saw information about Linux tablet called Spark, i was excited until i noticed that it's just on of those useless 'superpads' from china (meaning, there is no 3G or 10.1" screen... or anything).
