Submission + - Imagine the TEA Party was Black (sanfranciscosentinel.com)

DallasMay writes: FTA:

"Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC and Northern Virginia, just a few miles from the Capitol and White House, armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters —the black protesters — spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn’t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester — these black protesters with guns — be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? What if they were Arab-Americans? Because, after all, that’s what happened recently when white gun enthusiasts descended upon the nation’s capital, arms in hand, and verbally announced their readiness to make war on the country’s political leaders if the need arose."

Submission + - Background on Charles Nessons' "Fair Use" defence (youtube.com)

mugginz writes: The fair use defence used by the Charles Nesson led legal team for the Joel Tenenbaum file copying case was viewed as preposterous and unlikely to succeed by quite a few. This video contains some of the thought process behind that strategy.

Submission + - AMD Phenom II X6, 6-Cores On A Budget (hothardware.com)

MojoKid writes: "AMD is officially launching two six-core processors today, the Phenom II X6 1090T and the Phenom II X6 1055T. Although the new Phenom II X6 has two more cores than previous Phenom II X4 processors, the executions cores themselves are largely unchanged. However, with this new generation of processors, AMD is introducing a new feature dubbed Turbo Core. AMD's Turbo Core technology automatically increases the frequency of three active CPU cores by up to 500MHz, while inactive cores remained idle. Tests show the Phenom II X6 1090T performing in roughly on par with the Core i7 870 and Core i7 975, depending on the app, but the chip will retail for hundreds less."

Submission + - Belief in Climate Change Hinders on World View (npr.org)

DallasMay writes: Article describes an experiment that demonstrates that people don't put as much weight on facts as they do their own belief about how the world is supposed to work.

From the article:
In one experiment, Braman queried these subjects about something unfamiliar to them: nanotechnology — new research into tiny, molecule-sized objects that could lead to novel products.

"These two groups start to polarize as soon as you start to describe some of the potential benefits and harms," Braman says.

The individualists tended to like nanotechnology. The communitarians generally viewed it as dangerous. Both groups made their decisions based on the same information.

"It doesn't matter whether you show them negative or positive information, they reject the information that is contrary to what they would like to believe, and they glom onto the positive information," Braman says.

Submission + - Steve Woz was screwed! (go.com)

DallasMay writes: "I just watched the episode tonight and David Allen Grier and his partner Kym did not dance a Lindy Hop. He got a complete bye! He danced a Charleston. The entire routine there was not a single swing out. That was not a Lindy Hop at all! He should not have received scores nearly as high as he did, because he did not dance the correct routine. This is the Charleston http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V69ZunTI1J4&feature=channel This is a correct Lindy Hop http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-BQwtnNNpg&feature=channel Watch the episode for yourself. Count how many swing outs or triple steps (the "and 8" 's) you can see. There are ZERO! The Judges would have known the difference between a Charleston and a Lindy Hop. That was no Lindy Hop. Steve Woz was screwed off of Dancing with the Stars."

Submission + - Mark Cuban Hates Hulu (blogmaverick.com)

DallasMay writes: It appears that Mark Cuban hates legal video streaming websites. From the web blog:

"Like any good system, there are those that want to have their cake and eat it to. The content we pay for? They want it for free. We pay for it, they want it for free. How is that fair ? Where is the justice ? We pay for the content. We should be able to get it where we want it, and when we want it. Those who want it for free ? They should pay too. Call your cable/telco/satellite video provider and tell them you don't think its fair that the content we pay for is available for free!"

Could an ad supported, legal, service be unjust -or is he being ironic?
