Submission + - Designing great HTTP APIs: it isn't just about XML (elastichosts.com)

rawagajah writes: With the world moving to web services and the cloud, UK cloud provider ElasticHosts has written an amusing guide to designing a great HTTP API. Submission + - HP, Intel and Yahoo Create Global Cloud Test Bed 1

CloudSeeker writes: HP, Intel and Yahoo have announced "the creation of a global, multi-data center, open source test bed for the advancement of cloud computing research and education. The goal of the initiative is to promote open collaboration among industry, academia and governments by removing the financial and logistical barriers to research in data-intensive, Internet-scale computing".

Cloud infrastructure is a hot area, with both the big players like Amazon EC2/S3 and Google App Engine and more specialist web hosting players such as GoGrid, Mosso and MediaTemple in the US and ElasticHosts, FlexiScale in the UK.

Do you believe that clouds can and will differ (e.g. on API, physical location, data jurisdiction), at least in the medium term, or that compute capacity is already a pure commodity?
