Ick. I've never understood why people get tattoos. While I can respect the idea of using the human body as a canvas for art, it just doesn't come across as such. Perhaps it is just the way my brain is wired, when I see a tattoo my brain instinctively registers it as "damage" and that the person may be injured or ill. Certainly others must have the same instinctive reaction, yet it seems even more people are doing that these days.

Are you paying Google for Google Maps? You don't own the product, you don't even lease/rent it. Since it is a web application, they can discontinue it at their discretion.

Presumably companies and businesses that appear prominently on there DO pay Google something. And it should be obvious that it is in those businesses' best interests if users can find their businesses quickly, easily, reliably, and in a familiar way, even if it means using an older better version.

Same here, except after a point I'd go further and discourage others from visiting advertisement abusive sites. If they already do scummy things like that, then the site can not be trusted to not serve up malware or similar in the future.

Case in point, the other day I happened to notice that the old Dilbert.com web site is now serving up abusive pop-under window advertisements. Yes, the current Adblock catches this, but this tells me that this site can no longer be trusted. So I have removed various links to that web site, I won't visit it again, and I encourage others to avoid it.

You must not live in the US. With a few exceptions, most ISPs have just let their infrastructure rot and gouge their customers who have no choice. All while newer cell phone internet happily charges $$$ by the megabyte.

This is further compounded by some websites sticking up a dialog box telling me to register or "Like" them on Facebook if I want to continue browsing their content.

I suspect we'll be seeing more of this in future, meaning that I'll soon have to re-install NoScript just to browse without being nagged.

Recently I've noticed an increase in the number of sites that use scripting to load their content. Without, you get nothing. You can bet that once they wise up to tools that block certain scripts or parts of scripts, they will intermingle ad loading and content loading in such a way to make it much harder if not impossible to block ads.

Meanwhile, the company I'm at has teams at less than half strength, pretty much every silicon valley perk you can think of, great working conditions, very high pay, and just can't find people to fill the positions,

But have you seen your job listing requirements? 9000 years of experience in something that has been around for 9 seconds? Extensive experience in some obscure internal application that only 5 companies in the world run? Try accepting that you might have to TRAIN some actual human beings, and perhaps you will find you can adequately fill the positions.

Just watch these caps get raised (instead of slashed like they should) just because these billionaire mofos can bribe the right people. And face it, that is the ONLY reason these caps would be raised.

I think an unfortunate result of this overreaction is that concerned citizens may now want to think twice before calling anything in to the police. If you call something suspicious in, the police WILL call in the bomb squad, and shut down the city.

OK, a couple of questions TFA doesn't really detail enough:

When they talk about a different rendering engine, they make it sound like a completely seperate program. Historically MS has just tacked on compatiblity layers as a sort of "personality" to their existing rendering engine, and TFA indicates they are not doing this here. But how then? Which are they really doing? What is it based on?

They make it sound like they aren't even going to keep the Internet Explorer brand. Is that actually what is happening? I would find that very hard to believe. On the one hand TFA is probably just spewing BS speculation, on the other hand this is the modern Microsoft that REMOVED THE FUCKING START MENU!

Not that it impacts me any, of course. But I can imagine these changes creating customer, developer, and support confusion at many levels. Well, perhaps not as much as they did with Windows 8.

If this is part of the crap they changed a couple days ago, it also messed up viewing in some other browsers. I wish they would just go back to simple HTML 3, which used to view fine in everything.
