That is why you always hear about towns and ancient cities being wiped out by a nearby volcano. After the town gets plastered with ash and dust the remaining in the air lingers on getting into people's lungs putting them to slow death.

We have the means to quickly get away from it but at a large scale such as Yellowstone it's going to affect ALOT of things including livestock that we feed on.

Those who survive the initial blow will have a long battle of finding food and keeping warm.

Seems the only real safe place would be aboard the international space station but can't stay there forever either.

So I would stock up on canned food and water. And plenty of seeds for replanting because you are on your own when it happens.

What bothers me tho as more and more of these silly lawsuits crop up it will stifle innovation. Eventually it will choke open source software as they lack funds to fight this. Apple and Microsoft have deep pockets so they will survive, just we will end up paying for it later.

I just hope I can continue to use Ubuntu without worry.

Ever see the movie "Minority Report" with Tom Cruise? They showed a much needed transportation system that is actually personalized to the individual and yet managed by systems to keep things flowing properly.

Each have their own transport pod that ties into the rail systems for speed and efficiency.

Just wish it's here sooner because it's badly needed in large cities.

I don't mind taking the trains but be nicer if my car can drive itself and be super efficient.

Least for now my 2006 Honda Civic will have to do.

You're forgetting something about Microsoft. At least from what I've seen so far.

They don't support any flavors of Linux for virtualization other than their own products for obvious reasons. So it's not entirely a fair assessment of giving VMWare a run for their money as they still have to compete with Sun in this marketshare for Linux environments.

Microsoft came late into the game and I don't think they will ever offer support for linux. I'd be surprised if they ever do.

A side note, however, they do support OS/2 Warp in virtualization? Only thing I could figure out is cross licensing between Microsoft and IBM.

I too tried out VMWare Server 2.0 and it's web interface was buggy at first. Alot of times it would get stuck and you couldn't do anything.

They fixed most of the issues but not all of them. There is one feature I do like about 2.0 though is the ability to create shortcuts to the VM consoles. I only use the web interface to start/stop and create VM hosts. Rest I just use the shortcuts to the consoles. Works like a champ.

I'm a big fan of VMWare and will tell you it's never an easy thing to get it working right in the first place.

So after a few trial and errors I created step by step instructions on how to install VMWare Server on Ubuntu 64bit.

There is one thing always burns me is whenever there is a kernel update I have to reinstall VMWare so it can recompile the code to get it working again. I always forget to take that into account whenever I do the updates.

I've been lucky so far it only takes me a few mins to get VMWare working. No biggie long as I keep the install instructions handy.

Media have alot of influence in everything we do and spend money on. It pisses me off when some news article writer would write something negative when in fact didn't happen in reality but people burned that scenario into their minds which affects everything they hear and do.

Newspaper writes, "Tough times ahead, high food prices, high gas prices and stock market crashing"

When in fact those situations didn't do so bad after all but investors and consumers got worried and started to spend less which effects the entire economy. Makes me wonder if there is a government conspiracy to try own everything in it's path?

I am too a 100% GigaByte user. I've had a high end ASUS go bad on me due to bad flash. I never had a problem with flashing their BIOS before until one day after I did a successful flash without errors the damn thing won't boot up anymore. I tried the normal troubleshooting steps and even removed the battery with no avail.

Then I went out and bought a fairly decent GigaByte board and transplanted the parts over. Volia, no problems. It even sports the Dual BIOS in case this ever happens but after owning over 15 GigaByte boards over the years I never had a bad BIOS flash. So it tells me they spent alot of time in quality control and it shows.

They may not be the cheapest around but I am willing to pay extra for good quality product that will run for years without a problem.
