For me it was the price, I could care less about the backwards compatibility, it was convenient for sure. I still have a perfectly good PS2 that I still use. The initial buy in price was to steep for the majority of their target audience, especially when you could get the same title on the 360. Sure you can argue the PS3 has better graphics, but truthfully graphics aren't everything.

Not to mention that its pretty much proven that surveillance equipment does not prevent crime. Look at all the black and white footage from security cameras you can find. When he mentions it would be stupid to commit a crime.... I have to wonder if he has any knowledge of the types of crimes this is supposed to prevent and the criminals that commit them.

I agree completely. There is a large portion of people that do not have smart phones, so they are obviously not using their cell phone as a GPS. There is a also a large portion of people that have had a standalone GPS unit for years, if they are thinking like I am; it still works so I'm not upgrading yet. I love how we are so quick to say a device is dead or dying just because something else can do what t does. The standalone GPS will most likely be with us for quite a while.

Comment The bit Wars (Score 1) 506

Its not just the current generation. In an earlier day we endured the bit wars; where the systems at the time boasted 8, 16, 32 and 64 bits. What it boiled down to was bragging rights. Look at the Atari Jaguar, promoted as the first 64 bit system, its rivals at the time were the SNES and Genesis. The graphics sucked, and the games sucked compared to the vast librairies from its rivals. Eventually the bit wars ended. Did more bits make a better game? The answer seems to be no as the Jaguar was Atari's last production model console. The lesson seems to be a balance of graphics and gameplay. If the graphics are suited to the game then great, you've got a winner. Look at the Nintendo DS vs the Sony PSP... the PSP is capable of much higher quality graphics, but partially because of bad marketing and Sony trying to push it as a portable theater it is no where near as succesful as the DS. It also does not have the same level of game library that the DS has.
