I'm a regular ebook borrower from the Boston Public Library(OverDrive), and I love it. I bought my Nook to take with me on my very frequent work travel, and the ability to borrow books from wherever I am (often a long way from a library or bookstore) is really great; if I place a hold on an unavailable book, the library emails me when it's my turn, and I can "check it out" immediately. In fact, I bought the nook specifically because it allows for easy side-loading of library (and other) books. Overall, I'm very happy with it - and by the way, you can use a swipe gesture on the LCD display to turn pages while reading, although I prefer the side buttons.

Why are people reaching for the distant origin theory? I hate to break it to these people, but all the molecules necessary for life (C, H, O, N) is/was already available on Earth. In the presence of heat (energy) random molecules form. Add in a few million years, and presto life. It's simple thermodynamics. Or am I missing something?

Bullshit
The question is a good one for nerds
All nerds have pockets fulls of keys along with pocket protectors

I just keep a syringe of strong acid with me
Whenever I lose my keys, A small shot of the acid will dissolve the lock tumbler and I'm in
Try it, it works well on other people's locks as well

I don't care much for the iPhone, but I've always admired the Functionalist qualities of Braun's product lines, and their (at least historically) good production quality. I'm not sure that this prototype phone follows his famous ten principles, but Dieter Rams is a clear influence on Jonathan Ive; I wish Ive and others would follow his lead a little more closely and maybe let form follow function for a change.

The question is whether they really want to be unpaid or if unpaid work is just something they have to bend over and take in order to have a career. If the system effectively requires those new to the field to work without pay for a time, it is certainly not for the new workers' benefit, yet those defending the unpaid work keep on claiming that it is.

1. The constitution specifically makes room for such emergencies. If you think it is meant to be laid aside for any emergency, you are probably loved by a government eager to declare emergencies.
2. Your order of operations is offensively backwards. First pass laws in your state. Why do you need to pass constitutional ammendments as your first option?
3. You don't want to speed up the amendment process. It is not that difficult to raise a hopenchange mob, the damage to our nation would be irrevocable.

People who buy this device are buying into the environment created for the device by Apple.

Not necessarily. I got my iPod Touch because my wife had just gotten her bonus and we were at Frys and she kept saying 'just buy it' and, well, it's easy to buy a new toy when you're being coaxed. Now I have it and being the kind of person I am I'm exploring all my options for how to expand it's usability. That includes shitcanning Apple's security measures which are designed to prevent me from doing certain interesting things with it.

Mine is a generation 3 iPod Touch, so up until now there hasn't been a jailbreak for it. My understanding from reading the iPod jailbreaking sites is that they had an exploit waiting to release, but they were waiting for the iPad release before putting it out there, because they didn't want the exploit patched before the iPad release. So I expect soon to have ssh access to my touch.
