Comment Except that... (Score 1) 102

Except that if someone is going to be a crappy driver, they're going to do it with or without technology. Technology is simply the boogeyman that the media uses rather than simply admitting that there are some poor drivers on the road. A crying child in the backseat is infinitely more distracting than a radio/cell phone/Google Glass

Comment Re:More interesting site: English Russia (Score 1) 254

English Russia is indeed very fascinating, if a bit prophetic in their urban exploration sections where they visit places that have been abandoned since the Soviet collapse, including places that shouldn't have been completely abandoned!

Comment US "News" (Score 1) 254

The reason why RT (along with the BBC, Al-Jazeera and others) are popular in the US is because they're not filled with the crap that CNN, FOX and (MS)NBC cover.

Rather than focusing on supposed "racism" about Oprah in a high-end fashion boutique they focus on the real issues, like the NSA spying scandal, Obama's drone wars, etc.

Comment Differences... (Score 1) 156

There is a huge difference between Pandora's ads and Facebook's ads. Even without adblock its easy to ignore Facebook's ads, not so much when your music is interrupted with an ad on Pandora. The reason why Facebook has been mass adopted has been:

1) Everyone is on it
2) Its free
3) Its not Myspace

I don't think there's a single person who would say that Facebook is great or amazing, instead its simply adequate enough for most people's needs. Other than simply having a lot more people on it than other social media sites, there is no advantage to Facebook when compared to literally any other social media site, it has no competitive advantage other than merely being the most popular. Pandora is different, its predictions are much more accurate than Apple Genius or Last.FM, its superior to its competitors, not merely the most used and until someone makes better predictions, it will continue to be used.

Facebook needs to make their platform better if they expect people to pay for it because all they have going for them now is sheer numbers, just like Friendster and Myspace had going for them in their heyday...

Comment Most negative publicity... (Score 2) 300

This is perhaps the most negative publicity that I've seen for a console before it even came out. Even the failures like the 3DO had great publicity (the 3DO was named Time's 'product of the year')

Has there been -anything- positive that has come out of the Xbox One's pre-launch that hasn't just been damage control?

Comment Re:It is better than buying used games (Score 1) 300

You're free to sell your games for however much you want them. Hint: There's more than just Gamestop.

Steam is actually pretty crappy, but its better than some DRM schemes that publishers have come up with since you can't just swap disks like you've always been able to with console games.

Comment Why? (Score 5, Insightful) 300

Why are there even ads on the Xbox? After all you've:

A) Bought the console
B) Bought some games (presumably)
C) Quite possibly bought a gold membership

Now, I can understand something like when you go to the store to have maybe a little promo of "what's new" but beyond that, ads are unacceptable.
