Winamp has supported gapless playback for a decade now. I honestly can't understand how gapless playback isn't a default feature/setting in any music playing software.

It's not just about visuals, it's also about performance. It is now much cheaper (GPU utilization wise) to do today what was done yesterday. Also, keep in mind that a lot of games don't have that great of visuals because they limit themselves to match consoles. The Call of Duty franchise is a perfect example of this. When the FCC first got involved they gave them a provisional approval which required LightSquared to prove that it would not affect GPS devices. LightSquared was unable to prove it. I'd just like to point out that the movie rating system isn't actually a law. It's just corporate policy. The video game thing they want to be a mandatory law which in many peoples opinion (and I think rightfully so) a violation of the first amendment's freedom of speech.
