My dad spent most of his career as a developer for a federal agency. He always lamented that the direction of the organization would change according to electoral results. Not so much because R's and D's disagree on how to run IT, but because a new regime means new appointees at the top. The tendency is for them to advocate for the latest and greatest (buzzword) so that they can show cool bullet-points for their bosses. In reality, the IT planning/testing/implementation cycle in a federal bureaucracy turns out to usually be longer than the election cycle so the impact is minimal. By the time it's conclusively proven that the .NET/Java/Oracle/Cloud solution does not work, there's a new boss in place and a new hype-cycle to chase.

"Head of Road Building" seemed to work out pretty well for the country in the New Deal.

Except of course when a large North American army is passing through Kamchatka.

Words are cheap, including (often deserved) anti-MS comments on /. MS could very easily go the Apple/Sony route and push updates in an attempt to break third-party software that uses Kinect. If they do not do this, they deserve some credit for defying the 'my use case only' approach that appears to be the trend in consumer electronics these days.

Linux servers also have Linux admins who are paying attention to security. Windows desktops for the most part, do not.

Nope. I've taken tons of business and econ classes and have never seen a mid-term or final that came from the textbook publisher. It's a pretty mediocre prof who would rely on such a crutch.

And it really does load 2TB drivers.

1. It is getting better. Roku also has a new Netflix interface that makes things way easier to find.
2. Selection is WAY better than basic cable, which comes in at at least twice the price.

Parent is referring to "Inside North Korea", a National Geographic documentary by Lisa Ling. It's on Netflix instant right now. Happened to catch it last night, and it's a rare and interesting view inside the country.

Because nowadays most Americans only watch/read sources that they already agree with.

More importantly where's the robot fighting?

This show had such promise, origin of life in the cylons and all.. Unfortunately they instead decided to do 20 hours of grieving parent scenes bookended by a scattered story about religious revolutionaries.

This show was not canceled because of the business model of the cable networks as suggested in TFA. It was can canceled because it sucked.

I'm usually not an end-of-the-empire cynic, but really? $1.5B just for the House? Think I read somewhere that it's like $3B when you add in Senate and Governors races. This seems to me to be the fakest of fake economy.
