They've been floundering for years. They've gone through reorg after reorg. Their margins were eroded by other companies who came up with more competitive products. Their certifications are practically useless in all but the most die-hard Cisco shop and those are starting to go away as well.

Cisco was an innovative company that created huge market value. Now they're becoming "lean, agile" company with no real vision or future. They want to be "market focused" yet they're supposed to push the market to their view of technology and to create markets. When you lead from behind you certainly take on less risk but you sure don't create the profit margins and patent portfolio investors look for. Sell your shares now.

Agreed, this is a horrible problem and the numbers are increasing in terms of infections and deaths in Africa. The biggest issue with other nations is complacency in believing that local and national health officials can handle it when it spreads outside of Africa. It's clearly being proven not the case in Texas and in Spain with healthcare workers getting infected. I'm not sure the WHO even has the resources to combat this.

This goes to show how much we rely on so-called experts in this area and they have no fucking clue what they're doing. The CDC, the NIH should have been all over that hospital. This is not a lab experiment, and until they can come up with the protocols to assure healthcare workers safety then they need to start quarantining all people who come in contact with a contagious patient or sending them to a standardized facility where the risks to the public can be minimized.

This article and the write up are misrepresenting what's happening. You're trying to talk to an SMTP server, not the whole Internet. For some reason the SMTP server isn't supporting STARTTLS which is dumb, stupid and down right naive. They don't mention which broadband carrier but it would be nice to know so we could all do a Nelson and go "ha! ha!" The simple answer is allow them to fix their problem or just use another SMTP service that respects your transmission privacy preferences to all services they provide to you. They're not responsible for providing security to other services not under their control.

Since this is a wireless carrier you do have some protections regarding the network encryption already supporting your connection back to them. I won't get into CAVE or GSM security and any flaws but this is just a stupid ISP with one service not accepting TLS. What happens if you say try that at a GMAIL or YAHOO server instead on the same network? I don't see that scenario played out in the article. I for one know what happens there, it would have just been nice if these guys would have done a bit more investigation.

yes revenue keeps the business going. I've worked with a lot of developers who get frustrated with old codebases and true there is some code that should be abandoned. It's always good to have an architectural vision of where the code is going because it doesn't exist in a vacuum.
