Well my A21m would like a word with your Tablet

Ubuntu 7.04 to 8.10 killed the sound every time I closed the lid, suspend or hibernate was random.

Windows 2000 (this tank was designed for that OS)suspends in ~8 secs and wake up in the ~30 secs sometimes less, the only problem is Wifi sometimes but It have gone for 2 months with no reboot just fine. XP was not a good experience.

Someone upthere mentioned the much hate Wintel has over the netbooks, this is pure PR. the "twitter socket" or the "facebook reader" gadgets will not change anything.

I think theres no obvious place in the market for a revolutionary gadget, maybe the Apple tablet? But the estimated price would not make it an appliance like the eeePC 900 was. It's personal preferences and needs after all, I'd like to buy a cool netbook but I better save and get a Lenovo x61 and have the possibility to do actual work, BUT my old smarthphone SE p900 is dying so maybe the next gadget would be an iPhone/n900/BB. Maybe the facebook reader will sell fine, but it's not a game changer like the ipod or eeePC was.

Thats because Adobe it's a total bitch with its registry settings. Chances that you have something adobe related in the start up list?

Set you browser to download the PDF, not to open inside, then you can open it with another reader while you keep Adobe's buried and isolated until you really need it.

Adobe should stop creating new Creative Suites or rebranding FLASH AD NAUSEAM and fix all that crap. I don't mind if I can GPU-ohshiny zoom in PS if theres a whore all laid down asking for some scriptz 24/7 .. And Adobe don't seem to care a bit, I guess it's time for boycott.

I'd say that with half USA nuked out of orbit the world will hopefully try to COOPERATE to speed up reconstruction, meanwhile every country will be so trying to survive to even care about politics or supremacy, obviously there will be wakos and crazy dictators that will lead dumb survivors to fail, But hey! Darwinism will be the everydaymeal then.

The thing you most fear in case that such tragedy actually happens, is that your country may become "not important"? Because I actually think USA would cease to exist in such event, you may not produce food for decades, Canada and Mexico will be very affected and may not help much. South America will be the same ("ohnoes hard times!" heck we have been living hard shit for ages), Europe will suffer but no critical hit, Asia have shitloads of people, the production facilities and actually brains; Africa? Maybe real state there will take a boom. I really don't know what happens in such situation, my point is: "worrying - you're doing it wrong"

You're right because "3G" it's the name of an ancient south American "devil" so Cellphone carriers don't support it by fears of natives attacking the cell towers with arrows and stone axes. Also we believe WiFi steals our souls so it's banned from panama all the way down, and even if it weren't banned, We had a lot of trouble with the aforementioned coconut turbocells, chimps and an unknown-to-science-creature that happens to hunt mammals emitting WiFi signals, it's a place forgotten by any God I told you. Also do not even try with satellite stuff, here we have built HUGE slingshots and we load them whit death cat skulls and trow them to satellites because we fear reflection from the sun and moon combined would posses our children and make them crave for iPhones which we have determined that make brown people act like white people so we have to put them down, they start to talk about appz and megapixelz and cloudz and a lot of weird words, in that case we call a catholic sorcerer a "man of the volcano" and the spirit of a long death native hero and they all discuss the way you're supposed to be punished: it's usually being lynched in the main street by hordes of underground dwarfs trained in the fine art of stoning, or, if you're kinda thin, we take you to a "coliseum" where we are delighted seeing your heretic technology being pw0nd by pumas on coca trance while you're being epically smacked down by snuf snuf. Beware.

Now, what you _really_ have to do is:

Local thieves don't give a fuck about your data, they will know how much a laptop cost so going fancy it's not advisable

Plan before hand, know the city ahead so you can know the safer places, that are usually zones of the city were business and high income people are. There IS a lot of local websites about this DIY tourist guides, there are forums so you can request a "route", Spanish/Portuguese wikipedia can be handy too.

Do you know the local language? Some bit of it can be handy, also don't assume nobody speaks English here. Some private universities have groups of bilingual guys (and girls) doing as guides for clueless visitors like you, also it's free (as in a beer).

I would like to think that the sarcasm situation up there it's enough for making a point, but just in case, Third world is not a place that goes on by fucking steam, animal sacrifices and bronze. 3G it's somewhat common place and carriers are somewhat the same all over the continent (name changes from country to country but are the same cartel) so roaming actually works.

The malware you will find here it's the same malware you find there, so you know your enemy.

Obviously you need some sort of VPN but a common badguy will not care to break you p4azzwurdzz, If you're somehow someone carrying sensitive political information you can be 0wned, security agencies here are pretty good and political climate it's mild-hot.

All in all yours is not a technological question, it's something you can figure out by your self planing beforehand. You never told us your main destinations and transport, you have planned that, right?

It's not even related to a harsh environment assuming you think 100.00% of the third world it's like elbonia. I was born very premature, very weak and with an immune system practically absent. My mother, who was raised in harsh conditions knew that the only think that would make me a decent immune system was letting me be a very dirty boy, against medical advise, she created "the country" inside our house in the middle of the city. The pediatrician even told my mom that if I even make it beyond 2 years, it was impossible for me have a normal childhood because interaction with other kids (bacteria, virus, fungi) would kill me. Mom said "meh" and 27 year after I'm the guy who have flu once in a year, no allergies, no skin conditions no nothing.

Let you kids be fucking pigs! they WILL thank you now and every day for the rest of their lives. Be warned, your kid would try to turn your basement into a nasty jungle past puberty and even beyond, untidy environment it's something you attach to psychologically from very early in life. Mi actual room it's so fucked up that some of the girls visiting here had to visit a dermatologist the next day (thats was my acid test for a girl btw), a glass of fresh milk it's fucked up in like 2 hours, a banana turns completely black in 12 hours :)

Yes, we brown people are fucking nasty tanks but don't mind us, mind your bubble kids of today.

Yes I DO HAVE THE RIGHT I'm paying the hosting, I'm the one designing and coding the scripts so everyone in my target can get served a useful website. I use GA so I can know the average screen size = so I can design a better layout. I know where are my visitors coming from in detail that helps me to track and prevent slashdotings, take a look in the beta feature "intelligence". I know whats the most visited content and how much time people reads a random page, so I can plan for better content for my visitors. I can set up a weekly email to my client with the statistics so I save a lot of time and get new ideas from my client to fine tune things or make new stuff, that means more cash for me.

I can't see anything on the GA site that can help me to profile someone say: "Oh is this Argentinian 23yo advertising student who is stealing my brief form scripts again" All I know it's "I had a spike in traffic from Argentina and the only visited page was the brief form" I really doubt Google hires some guy to parse every GA account because you need a meat and bone AI to make a profile from the GA data.

You're very paranoid, the only thing Google capitalize from GA is the integration with AdSense and maybe they hope that if we have more insight about our visitors we can make better sites, who drive more visits ergo more eyes on the ads.

OTOH I really appreciate the link to Piwick and I will give it a try, is not that GA is the only one in the business of analytics, they happen the be better one right now.

Also <b>it's just me or are we seeing a flood in news/spins that try to portray a "bad Google"?</b>

(stupid /code_ate_my_html_tags_bug it's stupid)
