Actually, I've met Santa and he's nice. It's a common misconception that he's lugging a humongous satchel filled with toys and the truth will surprise you. He's got this delightfully nifty contraption that actually uses the same power that you believe, rightfully so, would squish a toy under these same conditions. What happens is that he, this contraption that is, produces what is basically a tiny marble with the tiniest pinpoint of light within it that sort of flits around and such. You can actually fit several thousand in the palm of the average adult hand. Anyway, the weird part, these tiny marbles are "delivered" and it's this delivery process that taps the "heat" of the destined human's spirit so that when combined with the phenomenal forces of velocity and pressure they intrinsically form the resulting toy, gadget, craft or any other "gift" you can think of. The delivery "shapes" the gift solely and wholly for the destined individual and its formation is completed only when the delivery comes to a complete stop. It's quite fascinating, and fast. Now, "What about the wrapping?" you might ask and to this I will only say that it's a clever little trick that one certain little elf discovered during early experimentation with hopper loading of these tiny marbles (they're actually called bullion, if you were wondering, and they make billions a year. They're nicknamed "bb's". Clever, I know.). Essentially it was discovered via a series of unexpected in-flight hopper test failures that when the bullion slows it can "glue together" its surrounding particles of, well, anything and what Santa actually does when he twinkles his nose is "color" the wrapping and bow. The elves call this part "skid marking" in honor of that one elf that released that one fateful hopper load attempt. The elf's name was Zee but that has very little relevance. Zee's skid marked bullion piece still sits prominently at the controls of the hopper station though none are allowed to touch it.

There, I do hope I've cleared some things up but, as it is, we must have our traditions and stories, I know.

I agree that this is a more agreeable beat than the fence. I'm still having trouble with what, exactly, is so inherently wrong with an open wi-fi? I would offer that it's a bit like an abortion question - one answers that based on one's requirements and circumstance. One's circumstances should dictate how open they, the gear operator, would like it to be - from locked down through wide open.

Having said that I am 98% with the 'Your Service is Available' notice for those that may be caught unawares. The objective is to protect your own shit. Warnings are fine. Implications that an available network connection is wrong are not. Fuck businesses and coffee shops. I'm a person too.

However, that open network connection is not an invitation for law enforcement to review, collect or monitor the information behind it without a warrant. Its purpose is to provide service to the Internet. Abuse is the responsibility of the abuser. Security is the responsibility of the provider. Privacy is the responsibility of the law. The law is the responsibility of the people.

eh? Not once have I ever seen any ad on slashdot. Ever. I even get confused by the little box located top right asking if I'd like to disable advertising. Whatever I did I think I did it right and this is spanning multiple platforms over multiple years.

Shouldn't one be able to do it that way on any (*any*) purchased electronic platform? In other words your ads are not my business unless I choose to make them my business. And when I purchase an electronic piece of equipment I have every right to decide what exists on it and when. If I don't then I won't until I do then I might.

If anything (*anything*) disappears because they couldn't make enough money through ads then the problem is not mine to care about for more than minute. Ads are not all evil, granted. What is evil is the assumption that ads are an absolute necessity and must be imposed at all times and at almost any cost. We must ensure that this product designed for people to read includes every opportunity for us to sell ads. There's no good in that mate. Not for you, the reader, at any rate.

So let's push a viable candidate from outside - way outside - online, right now. One of the currently eligible candidates that are not from the red or the blue. Screw the media, now. If it ends up being a completely wasted effort just what would the difference be? Exactly? Not much? I'd say so at this point. It's all bump and grind for someone, always. Throw down a vote in a conscious effort to steer hundreds of thousands of votes to the other party, the party of one person, - the one that is missing - a platform of trust. Traditional media aims to be looking for a lock down and a wholesale information availability reset. The Justice Department seem to be helping that effort along and these appointed trade representatives, in secret no less, and not too mention a few other fronts of encroachment into what we, as citizens all of us, know as freedom.

God damn to hell the backroom deals of governing this people, any people. There is a hideous stench in that. And that goes too for our relations with other countries, each and every one - we negotiate in public or we do not negotiate. If you're a leader with something to hide and are oppressive to your people then the natural course of things dictates that you should probably not negotiate but each and every corner of how you rule will become open for this country to see and hopefully others could follow as well. Looking for oil? Looking for water? Looking for rice, corn, weapons or weed? Then we should know. All of our people need to steer this nation, on this planet, in a direction that will enable us and not just guide us to some random (or well guided) fucking meat cleaver of an end point. Espionage? Lay it out. Is there something to fear in that? Are we going to allow a continued epic conflict between sciences that we've learned and discovered and the thing that created all of this vast thing we call the universe - all of creation? Really? The learn while you're alive VS the thing you may learn when you are dead? There's a good fucking con job in there baby. Are we going to find a room of super sophisticated heads of three companies, a handful of dictators and another of base religious driven drivel meant to blindly guide entire nations into some great and epic battle? Engage the people of the planet when and wherever you can right? This is one large conference call of potential these Internet lines. Mesh.

So, how much longer are we going to do this? Just as long as it takes until we can no longer communicate this freely? I'm beginning to think Mr. Manning had intentions that were just. A cherry pick would have been a waste of his efforts if it is to mean anything - anything at all.
