Comment Do you know ... ? (Score 5, Funny) 137

I assume that you know you posted your question on slashdot . So I can assume you know it is a cave full of nerds and geeks all over the place. Some are staring at you from the the ceiling, others are cowardly anonymous and invisible, some also pretend not to be nerds by referring to nerds as "they", "them", "the nerds"... hum...
But all of them have something in common: they need SPECIFICS, they need to know EVERYTHING, they are paranoiac, they are whiners and they hate non-sense !

Examples :
  • - You say, "I was hoping Slashdot could suggest a reliable hosting service for that type of project." What type of project? Define "reliable". (nerd 778537)
  • - To be more specific, why are you trying to upload the entire contents of your hard drive to a web server? (nerd 778537)
  • - What the heck is Electronic Writing that it needs a course separate from "regular" writing? (nerd 679911)
  • - 500GB of words is 55 metric arse-loads. What are you not telling us? (nerd 679911)
  • - You might have asked us what the best sports team is, frankly. (nerd 137809)

Do you really expected to get any valuable answers with your non-specific question ? yeah... be sorry.

To answer to your question anyway, I need to know what kind of movies are you trying to upload illegally ?

Apparently the big difference here is that if you miss an action or if you do not click on time on the right button, you fail the current action, which leads to an other set of actions, based on your failures and successes.
It's completely different than 20 years ago. Where have you been ? ^o^

I don't know if you are French or if you follow French politics, but you should understand that right now, no one can be trust in French politics. No one on the right, no one on the left, no one on the center.

And if no one emerges before 2012, even if laws like this one are passed, the day people will have to vote, they will vote for the less damageable person for the country with experiences in economy and immigration.
If the socialist party gives us a Royal choice, we will have little Napoleon again.

And do not forget that a lot of people don't care at all about this law. A lot of politicians too. Don't be fooled by the simile debates you saw at the Parliament. a lot of the left politicians against this law were in fact only against the government. They don't care and will not care about this effect of this law unless the people goes out in the street...
Good luck to persuade people of the danger of this law. The syndicates are not impressed: they will do nothing and in 2012, everything will be forgotten.

I don't understand the need to split the control of a private company (even if it's controlled by a government). So, we should ask the US to force Microsoft to split the control of the company between the countries using Windows OS and servers ? Same thing for Oracle, Apple, etc. ? Come on. It's not because a country is dependent to a technology created by a private company or another country that it should have the ability to control some parts of the decisions over this technology. Create your own "internet" if you really want to control something and stay in your bubble, stupid !

Apple Mac Mini 1TB Upgrade — Not Easy But Possible 95

designperfection9 writes "The new Mac mini is all well and good, but anybody hoping for gobfuls of extra capacity will come away disappointed. Apple's entry-level mini gets 120GB of storage, and it costs $175 to take that up the official 320GB maximum. Happily iFixit decided to step in and take matters into their own hands, with a nine-page pictorial guide to fitting your Mac mini with 1TB of storage." They're also offering a kit to accomplish the same end for $250 — that seems high to me now that 1TB external drives can be had for quite a bit less, and require no putty-knife action to install.

as my wife (who does research and writes articles in neuroscience) says: 90% of the research is to find something enough interesting to get more money for your researches. It's not bad, it simply is how it works in science research. When you write an article, you always have to project your discovery into the future and tell how it will (not would) affect and save the life of many sick people, even if you know it will happen in 100 years at last.

It's a GEM. I am a music composer. Not only i see in these cubes an amazing and interesting way to play and to have fun but i also see them as a light materialization of electronic music softwares (free or not like Psycledelics, Logic Pro) and as an extension device ofr electronic instruments that can be used in studio or live.
