Comment speaking of obscene emoticons (Score 1) 333

There's a Russian joke about emoticons (I'm sure totally made up).
During his first orbit, Yuri Gagarin was asked if he was enjoying the view, to which he responded "the view is three equals eight."
3=8 ("zayebis!" or rough equivalent of "fucking awesome!")

You kinda have to have you mind in the gutter to see this one (but I'm sure most slashdotters will do just fine ;)).

Avoiding Wasted Time With Prince of Persia 507

Zonk pointed out an interesting video presentation by Shamus Young on the importance of the new Prince of Persia, calling it the most innovative game of 2008. Young brings up the fact that many of today's games punish failure by wasting the player's time; being sent back to a check point, the beginning of a level, or sometimes even further. This cuts into the amount of time players have to enjoy the meat of the game — the current challenge they have to overcome. Unfortunately, as Young notes, modern controllers are designed for players who have been gaming since they were kids, and have evolved to be more complicated to operate than an automobile. The combination of these factors therefore limits or prevents the interest of new players; a problem Prince of Persia has addressed well through intuitive controls and the lack of punitive time sinks.

Submission + - No link found between mercury levels and autism

Mr. Icon writes: "Researchers at the Montreal Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Center have revealed new evidence dispelling the supposed link between mercury and autism. The research team, led by Dr. Eric Fombonne, tested mercury levels in the hair and blood samples from autistic children and their mothers and found that the levels did not differ statistically from those samples taken from non-autistic children. They also demonstrated that there was no correlation between the mercury level and the severity of symptoms and level of functioning of autistic children."
