Submission + - 30 years of emulation in a single torrent (emuwiki.com)

EmuWikiAdmin writes: EmuWiki.com has collected old and recent emulator files since 2 years and a half and has now 30 years of emulation up as a single torrent accessible to anyone. The torrent contains 7651 emulators released between 1982 and 2010. It is the biggest emulator collection ever released in a single torrent and it also contains the complete EmuWiki database with every 'What's new' of every release collected up to now. People at EmuWiki.com are looking for help from the community. Anyone who has an old emulator file can upload it to the encyclopedia so that the file is included in the next collection release. The timeline ( http://www.emuwiki.com/index.php?title=The_Emulation_Timeline ) shows all the emulators that have been collected up to now classified by the date of release.

Submission + - GMail vulnerability leaks images sent by others (wordpress.com) 1

rumith writes: Almost a year ago (December 2008), I reported a bug to Google concerning incorrect preview generation for TIFF images in GMail. The problem is that at least for some TIFF files (one such file is linked in the blog; you can use it to test my report) GMail generates a new preview every time this file is sent, and this preview doesn't correspond to the contents of the file I sent in any way. Rather, I see previews of photos (sometimes pretty embarrassing) apparently made by other users. Downloading the attached image works okay though. Get the word to Google to have the vulnerability fixed ASAP!

Disclaimer: Yes, I am the author of the blog linked. No, I have no idea why this file causes such behavior.

Intel Caught Cheating In 3DMark Benchmark 216

EconolineCrush writes "3DMark Vantage developer Futuremark has clear guidelines for what sort of driver optimizations are permitted with its graphics benchmark. Intel's current Windows 7 drivers appear to be in direct violation, offloading the graphics workload onto the CPU to artificially inflate scores for the company's integrated graphics chipsets. The Tech Report lays out the evidence, along with Intel's response, and illustrates that 3DMark scores don't necessarily track with game performance, anyway."

Submission + - Canadian TV Networks, Carriers duke it out

jenningsthecat writes: In Canada, the war is visibly heating up between television networks, and the telcos and cablecos that provide TV signals to more than 90% of Canadian TV-watchers. Both sides of the debate are airing TV commercials reminiscent of a political campaign, and of course each side has its own website:

TV networks, hit hard by declining advertising revenues, are scrambling to make ends meet. They claim that cable and satellite carriers, (who currently don't pay TV stations for the use of their signals), are getting an undeserved free ride; so they're petitioning the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission for new legislation that would require carriers to pony up. On the other side, the carriers point out that the TV networks already receive government funding, and are spinning the networks' pitch as a "TV tax". The cable and satellite carriers have stated that they will pass any such fees on to subscribers.

Networks have been down this road with the CRTC twice before, and have met with no success; this time they're doing their best to get public opinion behind them.

Major Snow Leopard Bug Said To Delete User Data 353

inglishmayjer was one of several readers to send in the news of a major bug in Apple's new OS, 10.6 Snow Leopard, that can wipe out all user data for the administrator account. It is said to be triggered — not every time — by logging in to the Guest account and then back in to the admin account. Some users are reporting that all settings have been reset and most data is gone. The article links to a number of Apple forum threads up to a month old bemoaning the problem. MacFixIt suggests disabling login on the Guest account and, if you need that functionality, creating a non-administrative account named something like Visitor. (The Guest account is special in that its settings are wiped clean after logout.) CNet reports that Apple has acknowledged the bug and is working on a fix.

I have an HP TX 2000 tablet and when I use the VGA out to connect to my brand new 24" LCD the colors are all off. White is now much yellow, and none of the colors are the same as before. I have tried 2 different monitors with 2 different VGA cables and nothing. Even installed windows 7 beta incase it was something with the OS. However it was working fine for a few weeks, with no issues. I think the VGA connector might be fucked up, but you can't tell by looking at it.
