And really the argument 'these scores are low because X slowed them down' is really not sound. If X really exists then the connection is slowed in real life. I would bet this is the results of what people expierence over the net. And should be plenty fine to help determine what needs to be done to get back in the same ballpark as the rest of the industrialized world.

Well "Chrome" is sypware. It is and well it isn't open source. Chromium is open source and well is basically the exact same as "Chrome" but different. I won't appologize for it, it IS SPYWARE. It does give you benefit but it reports almost everything home.

As for SRWare Iron. I use it. It is great. But you don't get SRWare Iron when you click on the Chrome button. SRWare Iron is a good browser, Chrome is NOT.

Chrome is SPYWARE! It is a horrible browser, it phones everything home to Google.

I would teach them something they can compete with. Not necessicarilly what is the most competitive. Who cares if C is faster, if they don't have enough knowledge to solve the problems. I would try to teach them something to maximize their utility and scrap time. If they continue to program they have reall won (or lost) not sure which way to go on that one.

But really if you give them good ability to solve problems via programming you really let them win. They can go lear C over the following year.

Sure I lied to my employer (worked shitty hourly retail job while in college)about my ability to drive in when it was raining. But I lived for 1 year very close to school, and abotu 8 miles from work. Then I lived for 2 years about 2 miles from work and 12 miles from school, and finally I lived a year 9 miles from work and 10 miles from school. And sure I bummed some rides with friends every now and then but I also biked (or walked) 12 months doing all of this.

No I would regularly ride my bike on public roads with only my health insurance information (because those 'licensed' to drive suck at it) stuffed into various parts of my bike and clothing. You only need a drivers license to operate a MOTOR vehicle (typically above 49cc) on public roads.

You would be supprised how much ground you can cover with a bicycle when it is your only mode of transportation. Even in a HOT, HILLY, and CONGESTED metro area like Atlanta.

Number 2 and 3 are the same. Fuel Cells are electrical generators that can use a liquid power source. Batteries are electrical power storage mediums. They are both electric cars, and so is the Chevy volt (it just has a petrol generator on it).

And bio-fuels are well a bad idea. They are in essence very very low efficiency solar power. Their only benefit is that they fit in (almost perfectly) into our current fossil fuel based transportation system.

The versatility of a combustion engine, and the power density and portability of petrol/diesel will last for a VERY long time. Bio fuels CAN NOT SCALE! The ideas behind them will be scrapped but they will remain a very minor player.

And I am sorry. IE8 is not ALL that bad. IE6 was the biggest piece of shit ever, and I am sure the taste is still in the air. But IE8 isn't really that bad. Sure as shit better than the SPYWARE that chrome is.

I don't have to worry about 1080 vs 720 native resolution problems. I can show 1080i just as nicely as 720p.

I feel your pain with the CRTs. I had a 19" monitor with 1600x1200 resolution in the 90s. It took about 10 years to get LCDs with 1920x1200. But they are 24". Sure my desk is a bit thinner but the 3 years between my 19" CRT gonig tits up, and me being able to drop $500 on a decent 24" 1920x1200 monitor was PURE HELL.

Althought I still think spinning metal discs will last. Only due to the total storage density of traditional HDD. It will take a long time for SSDs to fit 1.5TB into a drive bay, and not cost absurd amounts.

And that would be USER error. I am sorry but you can't expect to drag the brakes at 70mph to maintain speed. And you definately can't expect to drag them fora while then expect to be able to stop. The brakes are not a 'Stop' button.

Now people not knowing how to drive is a problem that the manufacutrers have made worse. It is also a major result of the DMV handing out liscenses to anyone who can get a 75% on a REALLY EASY written exam.
