THIS.

Was using a TI-99 4A until 1991.

Had a few better machines (Atari 800XL and a C64) but kept coming back to the TI.

Graphics were a loss (remapping ASCII character bitmaps? orly?) but the handling of data in a program was so simple and beautiful, even using tape. Fond memories.

Now everything gets Linux on it. Architecture? Meh. Works on everything.

More powerful, more usable.

But not nearly as much fun.

God I miss 80's computing.

What you aren't seeing in the OP's intent is this:

Even alliances are done with the potential benefit of each certain individual in the mind of each certain individual.

Morons use people as a short-term source of benefit.

Brilliant people realize that there is value in the collective, in the form of burger flippers and shelf stock people and other ubermensch.

All roads lead to Rome.

The cops get a warrant and go in to Joe's house looking for evidence of drug dealing.

There is a bottle of drain cleaner under Joe's bathroom sink. Near his computers they find a digital scale, a bottle of 99% ISA alcohol, a bottle of acetone, and a few glass bowls.

The drain cleaner is for getting hair out of the shower. The ISA and acetone and the Pyrex bowls are for cleaning and refilling print cartridges.

The lot of it is put into a box and paraded into court as Joe is charged with "intent to manufacture controlled substances".
